IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The flow chart illustrates the maufacturing process of fabirc from bamboo.
Overall, the process is consist of total 9 steps, which include the planting and cutting of bamboos, which are then passed through 7 different stages to turn hard bamboos into soft wearable fabric.
The process is initiated by planting the bamboo in spring season, which are then harvested in autumn. Once the bamboo sticks are collected from farm, they are sent directly to cut them into thin strips, so that it is easy to crush them to make liquid pulp. After that, the pulp is passed through a filter to separate the long fibres from it.
Once the filteration is completed, the water and amine oxide is used to soften the fibres, which is than spinned to turn it into a thin thread, it helps in making yarn. Yarn is than used to make the fabric by the process called Weave. At last, the fabric is used to make final products like T-shirt, pant or socks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover the main stages from planting through to finished clothing, and the overview correctly identifies a nine-step process that transforms bamboo into fabric. The seasonal details and the sequence of cutting, crushing, filtering, softening, spinning and weaving are mostly reported accurately. This gives the response a clear account of the process. Some details are less precise: the diagram says the fibres are softened by adding water and amine oxide, whereas your wording makes the water and amine oxide sound like the only materials used without clearly linking them to this stage. You also call the spun material a “thin thread” before saying it makes yarn, which blurs the relationship between spinning and yarn production. State the stages more directly and distinguish the final clothing examples shown from items not depicted, such as pants.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response is arranged in a sensible sequence: an introduction and overview are followed by the early processing stages and then the later stages. Connectors such as “After that,” “Once,” and “At last” help the reader follow the process, and the paragraphing broadly supports this progression. Some links are less controlled, however. The sentence beginning “Once the filteration is completed” repeats the previous stage rather than moving smoothly to the next, and the final sentence of the second body paragraph joins several ideas with commas, making the relationship between spinning, yarn and weaving less clear. Use concise stage-to-stage transitions and separate distinct steps into complete sentences to make the progression more fluent and precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a relevant range of process vocabulary, including “harvested,” “liquid pulp,” “filter,” “fibres,” “yarn” and “weave,” which allows you to describe the manufacturing stages. Some choices are imprecise or awkward for this context: “passed through a filter” is less exact than describing the pulp being filtered, and “thin thread” is not needed when the diagram identifies the product of spinning as yarn. There are also spelling errors in “maufacturing,” “fabirc” and “filteration,” as well as inconsistent capitalisation of “Weave.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy and control. Aim for precise process collocations and proofread spelling and capitalisation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning “which” and “so that,” and the overall meaning is generally clear. However, some grammatical errors remain. “The process is consist of” has an incorrect verb construction; use “consists of.” In “the bamboo … which are then harvested,” the singular noun and plural verb do not agree. The sentence “it is than spinned …, it helps” contains incorrect verb forms and joins independent clauses with a comma. There are also errors in “Yarn is than used” and “the water and amine oxide is used,” where the verb form or agreement needs correction. Review subject–verb agreement, passive forms and sentence boundaries to improve accuracy while retaining your complex structures.
