Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, modern lifestyle of many individuals is influenced by the trend set by the global fashion industry. Many people believe that following these life standards will allow them to fit in the society and gaining appreciation of living the life up to modern standard. However, I believe that these development is causing negative effect on their lives as well on the society by setting the wrong trends for up coming generation and spending money on unnecessary things just for show off.

To begin with, the fashion industry launches an event for new clothing collection, within an hour they are all sold out. The main reason behind their sale is people are buying those clothes in large quantities just to show that they are living the life most people can't afford. As a result, pressure is build on the society, individuals who can't afford 3 meals per day, spends their saving just to get those dresses, so that they can fit in.

Moreover, the young generation who follow their elders like role models starts to believe that if they will not follow the latest trends society will not accept them. They will not be given equal opportunity to live good quality life. As a result, instead of building up a career through right path, they try to focus on the unnecessary standards set up by the society.

In conclusion, global fashion is mis-leading the individuals by setting the wrong trend and encouraging the youngsters to follow the same path just for sake of acceptance in the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear negative position and provide relevant concerns, especially financial pressure and the effect of fashion expectations on young people. However, the task asks both how global fashion became influential and whether this is positive or negative. Your explanation of the influence is limited mainly to people wanting to fit in and fashion launches selling out; it would be stronger if you explained the role of social media, advertising, celebrities, or international brands. The negative effects are also asserted more than developed: for example, the claim that young people lose equal opportunities needs a specific explanation or example. The response therefore addresses the main parts, but some ideas remain limited or unclear. Develop each point with a clear cause-and-effect explanation and relevant support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your position, two body paragraphs present separate concerns, and a conclusion restates the argument. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the progression. This organisation is effective, and the central line of argument is generally easy to identify. To make the cohesion more flexible and precise, clarify links between claims and their consequences. For instance, the move from young people following elders to being denied equal opportunities is not fully explained. Some connections are also repetitive, particularly the repeated emphasis on fitting in and social acceptance. Use more specific referencing and develop the relationship between each example and your main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “global fashion industry,” “latest trends,” “role models,” and “quality life,” so the main ideas are understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “setting the wrong trends.” However, several noticeable word-choice and collocation problems make parts of the response less natural: “gaining appreciation of living the life up to modern standard,” “pressure is build on the society,” and “just for show off.” Some expressions are repeated, especially “society” and “trend,” which limits flexibility. Aim for more accurate, natural combinations and vary key terms. For example, describe people as seeking social acceptance or status, and refer to pressure to keep up with fashion rather than pressure being built on society.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional idea in “if they will not follow the latest trends” and a result structure beginning “As a result.” This shows some range, but control is uneven, and errors sometimes make sentences difficult to process. Examples include “these development is,” “individuals … spends,” and “the young generation … starts,” where agreement is faulty. The sentence beginning “The fashion industry launches an event” also joins two independent ideas with a comma, while “if they will not follow” needs a more suitable verb form. Review subject–verb agreement, conditional structures, and sentence boundaries. Building shorter, accurate sentences first will help you express the more complex cause-and-effect relationships clearly.
