Student answer (Band 6.0)

The current ways of people's dressing is heavily influenced by the fashion trends that are popular globally. This essay will find out the reason behind this effect and my take on this development.

One of the reasons of such influence is the accessibility to the internet. People can follow the global fashion industry quite easily these days and find interest in them. For example, the fashion standards set by the western countries are seen to be vastly adopted by the people of the south asian countries such as Bangladesh, even though it is not very common to their culture. Another reason is the change in fashion sense. Over the time, people's taste in dressing has changed massively and instead of always dressing up like their native people, they are keen to explore the global trends for various reasons. For instance, in the earlier days, Bangladeshi women were seen mostly wearing saree during events and parties. However, they choose to dress very differently in these days during these events which can be attributed to the influence of global fashion trends.

Although global fashion has strong impact these days, I think this is a negative development overall. Firstly, it takes away the authenticity of different regions and makes it monotonous where we see the same kind of fashion everywhere. People lose their regional identity while trying to follow these trends and that brings them on the same boat as everyone else who are doing the same. Additionally, it makes a lot of beautiful and artistic ways of dressing become extinct. The ways in which the roman and french people used to dress in previous centuries would have been a treat to watch had it not been replaced by the current fashion trends.

Despite heavy influence on modern dressing, the global fashion trends have taken away some of the important aspects of regional fashion as well. And this made me come to the conclusion that they might be fashionable in certain occasions, but regional authenticity must prevail.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you identify internet access and changing tastes as reasons for global fashion’s influence, then clearly state that you see it as negative. The examples of Western styles in Bangladesh and women’s changing event clothing make the discussion relevant. However, the explanation of how internet access creates influence is brief, and the point about changing tastes partly restates the trend rather than explaining its causes. Your negative position is supported by loss of regional identity and traditional dress, but the claim that Roman and French clothing would have been a “treat to watch” is not fully connected to the effects on people today. Develop these ideas with clearer cause-and-effect reasoning and more specific support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining causes, a paragraph giving your view, and a concluding statement. Signposting such as “One of the reasons,” “Another reason,” and “Firstly” helps readers follow the main points. However, some links feel mechanical, and the final paragraph largely repeats the negative position already stated rather than adding a concise synthesis. The reference in “this effect” is also somewhat vague, while “this” in “And this made me come to the conclusion” could refer to several preceding ideas. Improve progression by making each paragraph’s central point explicit, linking examples directly to the claim they support, and avoiding repeated conclusions.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “global fashion industry,” “regional identity,” “authenticity,” and “fashion trends.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions such as “monotonous” and “prevail.” However, several word choices and collocations are awkward or imprecise: “find interest in them,” “the same boat,” and “beautiful and artistic ways of dressing become extinct” do not sound fully natural in context. “The current ways of people’s dressing” is also an unnatural phrase. Aim for more precise, idiomatic combinations and avoid repeating “fashion” and “trends” where a clear alternative is available. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit fluency and precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “even though it is not very common to their culture” and “had it not been replaced by the current fashion trends.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors and awkward constructions persist. For example, “The current ways of people’s dressing is” has a mismatch between the plural subject and verb, and “they choose to dress very differently in these days” has an incorrect time expression and tense choice. In “makes a lot of beautiful and artistic ways of dressing become extinct,” the structure is difficult to control. Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and verb patterns, then proofread longer sentences to ensure their clauses are complete and clearly connected.
