Student answer (Band 5.5)

An increasing number of people nowadays are influenced with the global fashion and their way of living is also changed with it. Although, I believe that this trend does carry some positives but I strongly believe its becoming a negative devlopment as this trend continues to rises because people are start forgetting about their cultures and local products are not being that valued as it was in the past.

On the one hand in the modern era of social media, a huge number of people are keeping themselves update to the trend and their way of living and style is being changed and they are using it to share their pictures on the social media to impress their friends. This is being increase and instead of changing on special occasions, they made it a normal routine. For example, if a person adapt a specific fashion for halloween will make it feel more special rather than doing on a normal day.

On the other hand, the older generation who promotes their culture through festivals and weddings and provides a positive image of them are getting disappointed from it as people comes in other specific fashion. This makes them that the younger generation is not listening to them and they are more influenced by the international community more and wasting a lot of money on international material rather than purchasing from local market. Also the poorer people who cannot afford these global fashion trends are keep getting left behind and people considered them in a lower middle class as they are in local dress.

In conclusion, I believe that being influenced by global fashion can be positive if its being happening on rare occasions rather than in all events because if the fashion sense is totally changed in people's live it will hurt the older generation as well as it will impact their culture as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions: you explain the influence of social media and describe cultural and financial drawbacks, while your conclusion makes your negative view clear. The point that people follow trends to share photos and impress friends is relevant, and the contrast with local clothing and older generations gives the response a clear direction. However, the first question is only partly developed: explain more specifically how trends spread globally, such as through celebrities, influencers, advertising, or international brands. Some supporting ideas also need clarification—for example, the Halloween example does not fully show why everyday fashion is less special, and the claim that people in local dress are viewed as lower class needs explanation or a concrete example. Develop these points to make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The use of “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” helps signal the main stages, and the ideas generally remain connected to the topic. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear. In the first body paragraph, the move from social-media use to special occasions and Halloween needs a clearer link. The second paragraph combines older generations’ disappointment, spending on imported goods, and the position of poorer people without fully showing how these points relate. Some references, such as “it” and “them,” are also not always precise. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example explicitly to the paragraph’s main claim.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “global fashion trends,” “social media,” “local products,” “international community,” and “older generation.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “positive image” and “special occasions.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, which makes some ideas less natural: “keeping themselves update to the trend,” “a person adapt a specific fashion,” and “local dress” are examples. Spelling errors such as “devlopment” and “halloween” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise phrases and check word forms and spelling. For instance, use “keep up with trends,” “adopt a particular style,” and “traditional clothing” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concession in the introduction (“Although…”) and a conditional idea in the conclusion. Meaning is generally understandable, but errors in verb forms, agreement, sentence construction, and punctuation occur across the response. For example, “people are start forgetting” needs a correctly formed verb phrase, while “people comes” does not agree with its plural subject. The sentence beginning “For example, if a person adapt…” is also incomplete and needs a main clause. In addition, “Although” should not be followed by a comma and then a separate main clause in the way it is here. Practise building complete sentences with accurate subject–verb agreement and use complex clauses only when their structure is clear.
