Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is believed that the global fashion trends are influencing the way people dress nowadays. This has a huge impact on the lives of the people and social media plays a major role in it. In my opinion, this has an overall negative impact on people.
Gobal fashion has a strong influence on people nowadays mainly because of social media. In the modern era of the internet, trends go viral over the internet and everyone starts to copy the same. Moreover, people easily track the trends while surfing through the social media apps and get influenced to follow them. This is especially true for teenagers and young adults who spend a lot of their time on social media. Another point to consider is that individuals face peer pressure to look good. They compete with one another to prove who is the most updated with the going on trends. For instance, a while ago korean fashion went viral over the internet, and everybody started dressing up the same way across the world.
Individuals nowadays spend unnecessarily a lot of their money on fashion pieces instead of spending on necesseties . Although, everyone should dress well and try to look their best, but it should not lead to unnecessary buying and wastage of money. Fast fashion is one of the issues that is contributing in environmental degradation because of the increased waste accumulation everywhere and excessive consumption of resources. Another downside of these trends is that people oftentimes become victims of bullying if they are not following the globally viral trends. For example, in many colleges, students get ragged for their choice of fashion.
In conclusion, global fashion trends has greatly influenced how people dress in contemporary societies, but it has also caused some damage to people's lives as well as to the environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the question: it explains social media and peer pressure as drivers of global fashion, and clearly states that the development is negative. The examples of Korean fashion spreading online, unnecessary spending, environmental harm, and bullying support this position. The main points are relevant and generally extended, which makes the argument clear. To strengthen the response further, develop some claims with more precise explanation: for example, explain how fast-fashion production creates environmental damage, or give a more specific account of how peer pressure affects individuals. The conclusion restates the overall view, though it could briefly synthesise the main reasons rather than repeat the general claim.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction presents the position, the first body paragraph explains how trends spread, the second discusses negative effects, and the conclusion returns to the central view. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Another point to consider,” and “For instance” help guide the reader. Paragraphing is appropriate and the examples are placed alongside the points they illustrate. Some connections are a little mechanical, however, and the second paragraph moves quickly from spending to environmental damage and then bullying. Use clearer transitions to show how these effects relate to the central argument, and vary the linking language so that the progression feels more integrated.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for discussing fashion and its effects, with relevant phrases such as “peer pressure,” “fast fashion,” “environmental degradation,” and “excessive consumption of resources.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and the writer attempts some topic-specific language. However, several expressions are imprecise or awkward, including “the going on trends,” “spending unnecessarily a lot,” and “waste accumulation everywhere.” There are also spelling errors in “Gobal” and “necesseties,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and precise wording, such as describing trends as “currently popular” and waste as “mounting textile waste.” This would make the argument sound more fluent and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “who spend a lot of their time on social media” and a conditional structure in “if they are not following” trends. Most sentences remain understandable, and errors do not prevent the reader from following the argument. Some grammatical inaccuracies persist, however. For example, “global fashion trends has” should be “global fashion trends have,” and “Although, everyone should dress well … but” combines two contrasting structures incorrectly. The sentence beginning “Individuals nowadays spend…” also has awkward word order, while punctuation around “necessities” is inconsistent. Review subject–verb agreement and practise forming contrast clauses without adding a second “but.”
