Student answer (Band 6.0)

Various aspects of the way people dress today are inspired by global fashion trends.

Overall, global fashion trends really affects people dressing. People often, copy their actors or actresses. Mostly, girls copy their actresses to look good. Even girls copy their makeup look too.

Sometimes, our young generation wear dresses which are not good to wear. In that dresses their body is visible and there dresses also become tight and short. Wearing short or tight dresses is not a good thing as this really impacts the kids. And copying someone is not a good thing. Some people are comfortable wearing short or tight dresses while, many people consider this is not a good thing. If, someone is wearing a dress and she is looking good in that dress. It does not mean it will look good om you too.

Nowadays, people really influenced from their favourite actress or actors. Even girls & boys copy and recreate their looks on different functions. Many people are really comfortable by doing this. But some people do not consider this a good habit. And many brands promote their dresses through famous actors and actresses.

For example, my friends often says the dress i am wearing Emma was wearing this dress on the reception of his brother and she was looking really beautiful in this dress. So, i thought it will look good on myself so i ordered it.

In my opinion, copying or wearing short and tight dresses are not good habit and it also really impacts our young generation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying the influence of celebrities and brands and expressing a negative view on the impact of fashion trends. However, the development is limited. The arguments regarding 'short and tight dresses' are repetitive and lack depth, focusing more on personal opinion than a broader analysis of global fashion. The response would benefit from more sophisticated reasoning regarding why global trends have become so influential, such as the role of social media or digital marketing, rather than just celebrity imitation. The position is clear, but the supporting ideas are somewhat simplistic and lack academic rigor.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is often interrupted by repetitive phrasing and simple sentence structures. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'For example' and 'In my opinion', the transitions between ideas are often mechanical. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'In that dresses their body is visible', where the pronoun usage is awkward. The progression of ideas lacks a smooth, cohesive thread, making the argument feel somewhat disjointed and repetitive in its focus on the same points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple words like 'good', 'bad', 'copy', and 'dress'. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or an awareness of collocation. Phrases like 'recreate their looks' and 'famous actors' are functional but lack the precision expected at higher bands. The repetition of 'copying' and 'not a good thing' limits the range of expression. To improve, the student should aim to use more varied synonyms and topic-specific vocabulary related to the fashion industry and social influence.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay relies primarily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('global fashion trends really affects'), incorrect preposition usage ('influenced from'), and punctuation errors (e.g., unnecessary commas in 'If, someone is wearing'). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of complex sentence structures and the persistence of basic errors in grammar and word order prevent the response from reaching a higher band. The writing would benefit from more varied sentence types and closer attention to basic grammatical rules.
