Student answer (Band 6.5)

In the 21st century the fashion industry is very convincing for the consumers because they have to cope up with the latest fashion trend . The originality of dressing in a person lacks in the modern world because everyone is influenced by a new trend and eventually there are millions wearing the same garments.

Advertisement , fashion influencers , peer pressure , the fear of missing out , are some reasons for being influenced by the fashion . Whenever I am out in the city , I have observed at least 60% of the common civilians dressing in a similar way. In this a pattern is observed , younger people will dress in a similar manner and similarly the older people. This trend has created a negative development in the society because of being brainwashed by the big fashion brands into consumption.

This over consumption has led masses to over spend in their personal favourite brands. For example, H&M a clothing brand has influenced the young generations at such a scale that every single one of them already has owned a clothing from it or manifests it for another day.

The global fashion trends has made people become looks conscious but if they take that positively it is a good change.

I personally think we should dress in a way that we stand out in the public from our originality. Anyone who is comfortable in a piece of garment has the right to wear it and should not be judged.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the influence of global fashion and whether this is a positive or negative development. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention factors like social media and peer pressure, these points are not fully explored or supported with detailed reasoning. The conclusion is brief and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported by a clear explanation or a more specific example, rather than just listing factors or making general statements about consumer behavior.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. For instance, the transition between the reasons for fashion influence and the impact on society could be smoother. Some sentences feel disconnected, such as the transition into the example about H&M. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') to better connect your sentences and paragraphs, ensuring the flow of ideas is more natural and logical throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, such as 'originality', 'consumption', and 'manifests'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation that slightly hinder the precision of your writing. For example, 'looks conscious' should be 'appearance-conscious', and 'cope up with' is a common error for 'keep up with'. Additionally, the phrase 'manifests it for another day' is unclear in this context. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more precise terminology related to the topic of fashion and consumerism.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the fashion industry is very convincing for the consumers' (should be 'influential'), 'the originality of dressing in a person lacks' (should be 'a person's originality in dressing is lacking'), and 'the global fashion trends has made' (subject-verb agreement error). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. Focus on subject-verb agreement and refining your use of articles and prepositions to improve accuracy.
