Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, an increasing number of people are following global fashion when choosing their clothing . The trend is mainly caused by the widespread use of social media and globalisation. Although it may provide certain benefits, I believe it is a negative development because It consumers excessive over consumerism and leads to lose a culture identity.

One major reason for this trend is the rapid growth of social media. This is because fashion influencers, celebrities and content makers constantly promote trending clothes on social media to million of followers. For example, many young people especially girls purchase new fashion items they see on TikTok and instagram as worn by their favourite celebrity. As a result, global fashion trends spread quickly across the different countries.

Another important reason is globalisation. Due to expansion of international brands people can easily buy same clothes while setting in different country.

In my opinion, this is a negative development. Firstly, It promotes unnecessary buying of clothes just to be a part of trending fashion. this means that many individuals waste money on buying these items which they generally don't need or never wear after purchasing . Secondly, It weakens the cultural identity by reducing the popularity of traditional clothes. Consequently, many unique culture styles are gradually

disappearing from everyday life.

In conclusion, this trend is mainly driven by social media and globalisation. Despite it offers people greater fashion, I believe it is a negative development because It encourages consumerism and threatens traditional culture .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying the causes of global fashion influence and providing a clear opinion on its negative impact. However, the response is slightly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of development. While the ideas are relevant, the explanation regarding globalisation is underdeveloped, consisting of only one short sentence. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed examples or reasoning. The position is consistent throughout, but the brevity of the arguments prevents a more comprehensive exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the transition between ideas is sometimes mechanical, and there is a lack of more sophisticated linking words or referencing. For instance, the second paragraph could benefit from better flow between the mention of influencers and the impact on young people. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother to achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'globalisation', 'influencers', and 'consumerism'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'It consumers excessive over consumerism' (should be 'encourages excessive consumerism') and 'lose a culture identity' (should be 'lose cultural identity'). These errors do not impede communication, but they highlight a need for more precise usage. Expanding your range to include more topic-specific collocations would help improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('It consumers'), article usage ('a culture identity'), and prepositional errors ('setting in different country'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing spaces after periods. While you attempt complex sentences, the frequency of these errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and sentence construction will be beneficial.
