Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, people are being significantly influenced by the international fashion trends and it is ultimately affecting their dressing sense. The factors that mainly contribute to this aspect include internet (social media platforms), air travel, and cultural exposure and these factors pose both positive and negative impacts on the development of the nation as it is reducing discrimination but simultaneously it is also damaging culture.

The way the folks are dressing themselves is strongly dependent on which type of information they consume on social media platforms like Instagram, Youtube, or Facebook because they try to copy the international or inter-cultural dressing codes, when they observe them online. This is why cultural exposure either online or offline affects the dressing style of the explorer, as evidenced by an incident in my own home when an Italian dress caught my wife's sight that she had seen on an Instagram advertisement and she insisted to order and try it. Similarly, intercountry visits also provides a chance to the traveler to observe cultures and visitors' internal instinct compels them to wear their cultural dresses.

These fashion adaptations imparts both positive and negative affects on the development by overcoming racism as people dressed similarly looks from identical culture. For example, yesterday, I was scrolling on social and a reel caught my glace in which an American was visiting Italy and everyone was greeting him in English but when he wore an Italian long coat, people started to communicate in English. This make made me to understand that the racism is dependent on dressing style. On the contrary, if people kept on following other cultures, their own cultural heritage will be lost.

Encapsulating all the debate, I would like to put forward that the global fashion trend is extremely affected by the social media and it is casting drastic impacts on social development but it can be overcome by making people aware of these affects.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the influence of global fashion and the positive/negative implications. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The explanation regarding how fashion reduces racism is logically tenuous and lacks sufficient depth, relying on a personal anecdote that does not clearly support the argument. While the position is clear, the analysis of the 'negative' aspect—the loss of cultural heritage—is underdeveloped and could have been expanded with more concrete examples. To reach a higher band, ensure that arguments are fully supported with logical reasoning rather than anecdotal evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Similarly', 'On the contrary', and 'Encapsulating all the debate', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the third paragraph where the link between the anecdote and the conclusion about racism is confusing. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved to ensure a smoother flow of arguments.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items like 'inter-cultural' and 'cultural heritage'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'dressing sense' (instead of 'style' or 'attire'), 'caught my glace' (spelling error), and 'imparts both positive and negative affects' (confusing 'affects' with 'effects'). While the meaning is always clear, the range is limited, and the errors in word choice prevent the response from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'everyone was greeting him... but when he wore... people started to communicate' and 'this make made me to understand'. Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction is occasionally clunky. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
