Student answer (Band 7.0)

In modern day, people are greatly influenced by the universal fashion trend. There are several reasons behind the influence of global fashion on people's lives. In my opinion, though it has some positive outcomes, the negative effects are more noticeable and problematic.

With the advancement of technology, people have become more conscious of global fashion trends, and they have more choices to dress themselves up. Nowadays, people are choosing fashion by their own choice rather than their culture. As a result, when they are travelling abroad, they don't feel awkward and can fit in any culture in any country. They have a lot more options to choose from for how they want to look. As an instance, young girls in my country are now wearing tea-shirt and jeans, which was quite rare in our time.

On the other hand, with the globalisation of fashion trends, local cultures are getting lost over time. Lots of local businesses depend on traditional dresses, which are facing a great threat from the loss of demand for those clothes. Also, I think, clothes represent people's culture and faith, which is also diminishing with the globalisation of fashion. Moreover, young people are becoming highly ambitious and spending a lot more money on clothes and accessories, which is adding extra burden to their parents.

Though the globalisation of fashion trends can give people more self-satisfaction and fit in feelings, it leads to losing their cultural identity and convinces them to spend a lot on their clothing. in my opinion, it's good to have knowledge about international fashion but also respect

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the influence of global fashion and providing a clear opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The position is consistent throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'local businesses' is relevant but could be expanded with more specific detail or a concrete example to reach a higher band. The conclusion is incomplete, as the final sentence trails off, which slightly impacts the overall development of the argument. Despite this, the main ideas are relevant and the response remains focused on the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'As a result', 'On the other hand', and 'Moreover' are used effectively to link ideas. Paragraphing is appropriate, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the topic. However, the cohesion is occasionally mechanical, and the final sentence is unfinished, which disrupts the flow of the conclusion. To improve, ensure that all sentences are completed and try to use a wider variety of cohesive devices to create a more natural progression between complex ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'globalisation' and 'ambitious', which are used correctly. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'fit in feelings' and 'dress themselves up'. While these do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Expanding the range of collocations and using more precise academic terminology would enhance the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several error-free sentences, such as 'In my opinion, though it has some positive outcomes, the negative effects are more noticeable and problematic.' However, there are recurring grammatical errors, such as 'tea-shirt' (spelling), 'fit in any culture in any country' (preposition usage), and the incomplete final sentence. While these errors do not cause significant difficulty for the reader, they indicate a need for more consistent control over complex structures and punctuation. Increasing the variety of sentence types and proofreading for minor slips would improve the score.
