Student answer (Band 6.5)

Global fashion trends have a strong influence on how people dress these days. The possible reasons for this huge influence can be due to excessive usage of social media, and a mindset that makes people think that global trends are far better than other sources of fashion. I think that this is a negative development when reaches to it's extreme, as it can create anxiety and mental stress in followers along with a pressure to meet global standards.

In past, the purpose of dressing was to just cover the bodies, and a bit of style to shows a person's worth was enough. But these days the trend has changed from getting influenced by national levels to global trends. As social media has made every trend just a click away, so people get easily aware of every move in fashion industry. It creates an urge in them to follow the trends, which can leads to peer pressure that others are doing it and I may left out if not dress in the same way.

By continues and easy access to international fashion icons people get more and more psychological impression to follow them. For example a new style of jeans that Burak Deniz wore on his new play, made all my college fellows to buy it, and with each passing day the style became so famous and common. Other girls who were not able to buy that instantly had a strong urge to arrange money somehow to be with others in wearing that jeans as well.

To put in a nutshell, as the world has transformed as a global village due to affect of social media and technological advancements, the dressing style of people is strongly influenced by global fashion patterns. Possible drawback of this can be a pressure in followers to achieve the same things, and once not met bring anxiety and stress along with it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the influence of global fashion and the evaluation of whether this is positive or negative. You clearly state your position that it is a negative development due to the psychological pressure it creates. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a personal example regarding a specific actor and jeans, the analysis of the 'reasons' could be more deeply explored beyond just mentioning social media. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully extended with more nuanced reasoning rather than relying on repetitive points about peer pressure.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In past', 'For example', and 'To put in a nutshell' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'By continues and easy access'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly rather than relying on simple sentence-to-sentence transitions.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'psychological impression', 'technological advancements', and 'global village'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'excessive usage of social media' (better: 'pervasive influence of social media'), 'get easily aware' (better: 'become readily aware'), and 'psychological impression' (better: 'psychological pressure'). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of precision in word choice prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on collocations and more natural phrasing will significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'when reaches to it's extreme' (should be 'when it reaches its extreme'), 'In past' (should be 'In the past'), 'which can leads to' (should be 'which can lead to'), and 'I may left out' (should be 'I may be left out'). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, article usage, and the correct formation of passive voice constructions.
