Student answer (Band 7.0)

Recently, global fashion has affected people's sense of fashion through social media and fashion industries. Although they have their drawbacks, I believe that its advantages outweighs its disadvantages, as it promotes cultural exachange and larger labour market for local designers.

One of the ways global fashion does this is through online. The internet has turned the world into a global community, influencing the fashion sense of online users. People from different part of the world can easily access different designs through numerous online platforms. To illustrate this better, platforms such as pinterest has helped users access various designs from their different cultural background, enabling them to express their personalities freely. Similarly, fashion industries are another tool being utilized to affect the way people dress. The type of clothes made by fashion industries in a certain area, affects their choice of fashion, consequently, reflecting on their outfits.

Although this development has its drawbacks such as the need to belong, its advantages like cultural exchange and increased labour market, outweighs its disadvantages. The pressure to want to belong can make the young generations spend most of their income on modern fads, although this issue can be averted through mentorship and global sensitization. In terms of the merits, individuals from different ethnicity could access and wear clothes from other culture through this development. This has promoted unity and cultural exchange around the world. Similarly, local designers could showcase their designs to the general public, consequently, enlarging their labour market and sales. For instance, platforms such as Amazon has being of great help to growing fashion designers, in the display of their talents to their target audience.

In conclusion, although the global fashion has impacted the way individuals dress, I believe that the merits of this development outweighs its disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all parts of the prompt, identifying both the drivers of global fashion and your stance on its impact. Your position is clear throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas could be more nuanced. For instance, while you mention 'cultural exchange' and 'labour market', these points are somewhat repetitive across paragraphs. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting example provides a distinct layer of analysis rather than restating the same benefit. The explanation of how fashion industries influence people is also a bit brief; expanding on the 'how' (e.g., marketing strategies or celebrity influence) would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'To illustrate this better', 'Similarly', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing; for example, in the second paragraph, 'the internet' is followed by 'online' as a noun, which is grammatically awkward. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the causes from the evaluation of the development. Overall, the flow is smooth, but a more sophisticated variety of linking words would enhance the cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'global community', 'sensitization', and 'target audience' effectively. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'exachange' (exchange) and 'has being' (has been). Additionally, 'labour market' is used in a context that is slightly imprecise; 'economic opportunities' or 'commercial reach' might be more natural in this specific context. While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the occasional inaccuracies prevent the lexical range from being considered fully flexible or precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully employ complex sentences, there are persistent grammatical errors that slightly distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('its advantages outweighs' should be 'outweigh') and prepositional errors ('different part of the world' should be 'different parts'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some unnecessary commas, such as after 'consequently' in the second paragraph. The majority of your sentences are clear, and these errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the score in this category.
