Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the influence of global fashion and whether it is a positive or negative development. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the positive aspects regarding economic growth and community are mentioned, the explanation of 'blind boxes' as a fashion trend is slightly tangential. The negative arguments regarding cultural erosion and environmental impact are relevant but could be more deeply explored. The conclusion is slightly repetitive in its phrasing. Overall, the response covers all requirements but would benefit from more precise supporting examples to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or awkward, such as the transition in the final paragraph where 'although' and 'however' are used in the same sentence, creating a grammatical error that disrupts the cohesion. Referencing is generally clear, but some sentences feel slightly disjointed due to minor errors in sentence structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'cultural erosion', 'environmental degradation', and 'unsustainable consumption'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'converts to trends' instead of 'become trends', 'promote a percentages of customers', and 'worldwide items' instead of 'global items'. Some phrasing is non-idiomatic, such as 'leaving in the cold' and 'take a long time to get over it'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, the lack of precision and occasional awkward collocations limit the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('their negatives raises', 'a large number products being sold'), incorrect preposition usage ('threaten to the social norms'), and awkward sentence construction ('by adopting trendy styles... can promote'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the misuse of conjunctions in the conclusion ('Although... However...') is a notable error. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing.
