Student answer (Band 6.5)
People's clothing choices today are largely influenced by global fashion trends. Increased exposure to global fashion trends because of social media and digital marketing has affected people's wardrobe preferences. In my opinion it's largely a negative development because it pressures people to meet societal expectations, regardless of their financial resources and personal comfort.
The globalization has given rise to rapidly changing fashion trends promoted by social media and digital marketing. This increases demand as well as availability of fashionable clothing in local markets, while also increasing peer pressure to keep an up-to-date wardrobe. For example, a young girl will never like to look odd among her friends, which will make her follow latest fashion trends including trendy clothing.
Meanwhile, this rising trend of global fashion has many disadvantages. First of all it results in frequent buying of clothes to look trendy, causing financial burden. Secondly, people feel pressured to wear fashionable clothing just to maintain their social image, even if they don't feel comfortable in that. The whole situation results in an unwanted pressure situation which can have long-term consequence like financial and mental stress.
Although following global fashion seems very glamorous, it may result in many unwanted outcomes. Therefore, I believe it should not be promoted and must be seen as something not non-essential to live a fulfilling life. People must realize its negative potential before blindly following any global trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the influence of global fashion and the evaluation of its impact. However, the essay is under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of development. While the position is clear, the arguments—such as the example of a 'young girl'—are somewhat simplistic and lack the detailed exploration required for a higher band. The ideas are relevant but remain at a surface level. To improve, you should expand on your points with more specific examples or nuanced analysis to ensure the response is fully developed and meets the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Meanwhile', 'First of all', and 'Therefore', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that the logical flow between sentences is more sophisticated and less repetitive.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'global fashion trends', 'digital marketing', and 'societal expectations'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly awkward phrasing, such as 'unwanted pressure situation' and 'something not non-essential'. To improve, aim to incorporate more precise collocations and less common lexical items to demonstrate a wider range. Avoiding repetitive phrasing will also help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'The globalization has given rise' (unnecessary article), 'a young girl will never like to look odd' (unnatural phrasing), and 'long-term consequence' (should be plural). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor slips. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you move into the higher band categories.
