Student answer (Band 7.0)

Nowadays, many teenagers and young adults are following fashion trends. Most of the factors by the way individuals are dressed today were greatly influenced by global fashion trends. This essay will discuss that how global fashion trends made an impact on people's lives and the reason why I believe it is a negative development.

Firstly, most of the people follow fashion trends up to date, especially this trend is observed in teenagers and young adults. Social media influencers and celebrities promote this fashion technology into people's lives. In addition, there are significant benefits by following this trend. One of the benefits is people present themselves very confident in social meetings and other activities. Moreover, people who follow fashion trends are way more inspiring than others. Another advantage is that individuals can choose wide variety of options to wear, this promotes the convenience to people's lives. For instance, many people choose to wear Korean inspired clothes, because people regularly watch K-dramas and get influenced by them. Hence, individuals who follow fashion trends can present their personalities and also it provides convenience.

Secondly, by following these kinds of fashion may have adverse effects. Individuals are influenced by some of the stars and these ones are wanted to try and spend a lot of money on them. Moreover, the used clothes will be unused, and it turned to be a waste clothing. In addition, more textile is wasted to produce new clothes which results to downfall of the textile industry. Furthermore, this trend continues and this doesn't end with one tend so that people will try every fashion in the world. However, the traditional clothing will become less popular, and this directly leads to cultural loss of a particular country. Therefore, following fashion trend results in wastage of money, textile and also the loss of cultural identity.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that, following global fashion trend is a negative development. Although, individuals following fashion can present themselves as confident and provides convenience to people, it has adverse effects such as unnecessary spending of money, more use of textile and also the loss of cultural identity.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the influence of global fashion and the evaluation of whether this is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout, and the essay is well-structured with distinct paragraphs for each part of the question. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the negative aspects are supported with arguments regarding financial waste and cultural loss, the positive aspects are presented in a slightly contradictory manner, as the writer acknowledges benefits but ultimately argues the development is negative. To improve, ensure that the arguments are more logically connected to the final stance, and provide more specific, real-world examples beyond general mentions of K-dramas to strengthen the analysis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different aspects of the argument. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'Therefore' are used to guide the reader through the text. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the benefits of fashion and the negative impacts could be more nuanced to reflect the writer's overall negative stance. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'textile industry', 'cultural identity', and 'global fashion trends'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'fashion technology' (which is contextually incorrect) and 'waste clothing'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient but lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing like 'people's lives' and 'following fashion trends'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the downfall of the textile industry'), prepositions, and subject-verb agreement ('these ones are wanted to try', 'it turned to be a waste clothing'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'This essay will discuss that how global fashion trends made an impact'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would significantly improve the score.
