Student answer (Band 6.5)

The fashion trend of world had changed drastically due to the availability of the internet, and many people wanted to wear the same dress that the influencers wore or that was in the trend. And this trend has impacted people's lives too. This essay will discuss about both positive and negative aspects of this trend and my reason to believe it is a negative development.

At first, due to the global trend and people's obsession with this trend many fancy stores sell the dresses that are in trend, which helps them to earn more money. For example, during the World Cup season the shops used to sell the jerseys of the teams that were qualified in the World Cup, which has helped the businesses to earn extra profits. Another reason is that it allows normal people to wear dresses that were in the trend and fell special.

However, this trend has more negative impacts on the lives of people; like, due to this trend, many teenagers want to wear the exact dress that celebrities wear, and the parents with low income have difficulties buying the dress. For example, the jacket of Tom Holland was in the trend last week. Although the jackets were expensive, many teenagers bought them, and the parents had difficulties buying them. Another reason is that this also affect the cultural sentiments; for example, Muslim women were not allowed to wear short clothes outside, but following the trend, many Muslim women try the dresses that were in the trend, which may hurt the sentiments of the Muslims, and hate crimes may increase.

In my opinion, I think this has a negative impact on the society because this increase the instability in the society and the trends also clanges every day and people buy new dress just to weare it once or twice which is a waste of money too.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the influence of global fashion and the evaluation of whether this is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The explanation regarding the World Cup is a bit superficial, and the argument concerning cultural sentiments is a significant over-generalisation that lacks nuance. While the essay covers all requirements, the supporting points could be more thoroughly explored to reach a higher band. The conclusion is brief but reinforces the writer's stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'At first', 'However', and 'Another reason' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. The use of referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the World Cup example and the broader topic of global fashion influence could be tighter. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, but the range of cohesive devices is somewhat limited, which prevents a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher levels. There is a reliance on basic terms like 'dresses' (used repeatedly) and 'trend'. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'fell special' (likely meaning 'feel special') and 'clanges' (spelling error for 'changes'). While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is not sufficiently wide to demonstrate flexibility or the use of less common lexical items. Improving the variety of synonyms and collocations would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the fashion trend of world had changed' (article/preposition issues), 'the dresses that were in the trend' (unnecessary article), and 'this increase the instability' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor slips throughout. While the errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the response from reaching a higher band. A greater focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage would be beneficial.
