Student answer (Band 6.0)
Different ways individuals nowadays dress is characterized by civilization
The social trend in our outfits could be simplified in our upbringing, our societal view about fashion depicts "I don't care" analogy and this goes a long way to state the impact this has in our society.
I am of the opinion that this is a negative development because ladies today dress half naked wearing skimpy dresses and showing their curves whereas men wear pants sagging at the buttocks and our children see all these, they grow up with such mindset thinking that is the best thing and way to dress and our so-called elders can not caution the young ones, anyways it is said that no man gives what he doesn't have, how can an elder discipline the younger on an account of what he wears when you been an elder does not know the best wear to encourage your child with. A friend of mine has a 3 year old daughter, as this child was growing up, the mother always have her wear show body dresses, short and skimpy dresses, so the girl already started developing such mindset that it is actually the norm and till now, she keeps wearing those things comfortably. These fashion trends need to be abolished because it has negatively impacted our society than it should positively. Our children sometimes fall into the hands of bad gangs or rapists through this means thereby creating chaos. The government and our leaders should create a policy on dressing and punish the offenders.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, but the development is limited and relies heavily on personal opinion rather than a balanced analysis of global trends. The explanation of why fashion has become influential is vague, focusing more on moral judgment than the mechanisms of global influence (e.g., media, internet). The argument regarding whether it is positive or negative is clear, but the reasoning is somewhat narrow and relies on anecdotal evidence (the friend's daughter) rather than broader societal analysis. To improve, you should explore the role of social media, celebrity culture, or globalization in spreading these trends, and provide more objective arguments to support your position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is divided into two paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. The introduction is confusing and lacks a clear thesis statement. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices, they are often used incorrectly or in a way that makes the flow mechanical. For example, the transition 'anyways it is said that' is too informal and disrupts the academic tone. The progression of ideas within the second paragraph is somewhat disjointed, jumping from personal anecdotes to broad societal claims about crime. Better use of linking words and clearer topic sentences would improve the logical flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally basic and sometimes inappropriate for an academic essay. Phrases like 'half naked', 'show body dresses', and 'so-called elders' are informal and lack the precision required for a high band score. There is a lack of variety in the vocabulary used to discuss fashion and societal influence. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated or precise terminology limits the score. You should aim to use more academic collocations and avoid colloquial expressions to convey your ideas more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Different ways... is characterized'), run-on sentences, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'the mother always have her wear'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several comma splices and missing full stops. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to confusion. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subjects and verbs agree, and using punctuation to clearly separate independent clauses.
