Student answer (Band 6.5)

In todays day and age the way everyone dresses is heavily impacted by the ongoing global fashion trends . This essay will expound further that why global fashion has had such an impact mainly due to the rise and accesibility of internet and the influencer celebrity culture associated with it .This essay agrees that it has proven to be more of a negative development due to obsession of always being the first to adopt global fashion due to peer pressure rather than their own choice .

Global fashion has become a huge influence on peoples lives as more people are able to access internet and watch and follow content worldwide .

It is evident that before the internet people were not well informed of what was popular in another country but as time went on and curiosity rose , internet celebrities became popular , their fans due to their influence began to adopt different fashion styles as they wanted to be more like their favourite celebrities especially since many of those created content promoting a particular type of fashion and this gradually spread due to word of mouth as the reach of an influencer to a wider grew . Subsequently as the masses were inspired it led to a norm being established of dressing like their favoruite fashion influecers.

However it has been proven to having a more negative impact rather than a positive one . As people nowadays adopt certain fashion trends for example backless dresses , extremely revealing clothes in case of females and use of makeup and other cosmetics in case of males all due to peer pressure . If not adopted many would feel odd and dejected of their social groups driving them further towards mental health issues as a person's own beliefs and comfot zone are not valued creating a toxic environment rather than using fashion as a way for all people to express themselves .

To conclude, wide use of internet and huge fan following of the internet celebrities have caused insecurities to emerge as any type of disagreement with their fans is seen as a rebillion rather than a personal choice .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the influence of global fashion and the evaluation of whether this is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction and maintained throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the explanation regarding the internet and influencers is logical, the discussion on the negative impact relies on broad generalizations, such as the claim that revealing clothes or makeup usage are driven solely by peer pressure. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced examples or a more balanced exploration of the topic, as the current arguments feel slightly repetitive and lack depth in their analysis of the 'why' behind the negative consequences.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. There is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the transition 'Subsequently as the masses were inspired it led to a norm being established'. Additionally, some sentences are run-on or lack necessary punctuation, which disrupts the flow. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'their', 'this') is always precise and clear to the reader.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'accessibility', 'influencer', and 'toxic environment' appropriately. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor spelling errors, such as 'todays day and age' (cliché/redundant), 'favoruite', 'rebillion', and 'comfot'. The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the sophistication or precision required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Expanding your range to include more academic or topic-specific vocabulary would also help elevate your score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with article usage (e.g., 'access internet' instead of 'access to the internet'), subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. For example, the sentence 'This essay will expound further that why global fashion has had such an impact' is grammatically awkward. There are also issues with missing commas and incorrect preposition usage, such as 'proven to having a more negative impact'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors would be beneficial.
