Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent times, the way people dress is getting influenced by global fashion trends. Social media is the primary reason why global fashion has such a strong influence on many people's lives. In my opinion it is a positive development.
Nowadays, everyone have a mobile phone with them and a significant number of them use different types of social media. Therefore any new trends can easily reach millions of people within seconds. Moreover, there are many influencers and main stream actors who try new fashion trends and promote them to their followers and fans, this is having a huge impact on people's choice. For instance, if a popular actor wears a new watch then automatically many of his fans will try to do the same.
Generally, there is no harm in trying new outfits and styles and it is one of the few ways people express themselves. Furthermore, following new fashion trends will make people confident and happy. Subsequently, many young people in recent decades started following western fashion in many third world countries even after facing backlash from society and this is a positive development because people should not be judged by what they wear. For example, in India society did not approve women to wear jeans and shirts but they wore anyway and earned their freedom to wear what they want.
In conclusion, social media made it easier to follow new trends from across the world and many influencers and celebrities started using social media to promote their new styles, thus many people are influenced by new trends. I think it is a positive development because people will fell confident wearing new clothes.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the influence of social media on fashion trends and the evaluation of this development as positive. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While the example of Indian women wearing jeans is relevant, the explanation of why this is a 'positive development' could be more deeply explored beyond just 'freedom'. The essay covers all requirements, but the arguments lack the depth and nuance expected at higher bands, tending toward generalisation rather than detailed analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the causes of influence from the evaluation of the trend. Cohesive devices such as 'Therefore', 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more sophisticated. The progression of ideas is clear, but the transition between the influence of social media and the societal impact in the third paragraph could be smoother.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. The student uses some topic-specific terms like 'global fashion trends', 'influencers', and 'main stream actors'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler phrasing. There are minor inaccuracies in collocation, such as 'main stream actors' (should be 'mainstream') and 'fell confident' (should be 'feel'). To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate more precise, less common lexical items and demonstrate a stronger awareness of collocation and style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('everyone have' instead of 'everyone has') and tense inconsistencies ('many young people... started following' instead of 'have started following'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. The punctuation is generally correct, but the control over complex structures is inconsistent, with some sentences feeling slightly awkward or repetitive in their construction.
