Student answer (Band 5.0)

In today's modern world the individual's way of dressing is somehow attracted by the worldly fashion trends in many aspects. This is the reality and i do agree with this statement however there are some demerits of this statement that is elaborated in the ensuing paragraph.

Initially,it can be seen that this is the age of social media.A large number of people use social media and so attracted by many trends and fashion on it.For instance, many applications on social media displays the current trending fashion that fascinates the people and encourages them to adopt that fashion. Moreover,a lot of people just want to look so good that the individuals around them gets impressed and also they wants to reknown as fashionista. This may affects the personality of a person in such way that he may forget who he is and what style he carries.

In addition,it may have a lot of negative impacts on the people as they get so involved in this that they just want to get up according to the trend. They invest a large amount of money on adopting the fashion. This may affect their financial stability. However,it may have positive impact on the lives of the people in a sense that their fashion sense may get better and advance with the time.

In conclusion to conclude that there are merits as well as demerits of the adaption of dresses in accordance to the global fashion on the people however the number of demerits are more than the merits from my perspective.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the influence of global fashion and the evaluation of whether this is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention social media and financial strain, the arguments lack depth and specific, illustrative examples. The conclusion is a bit repetitive, and the position, while clear, could be more robustly supported with more nuanced reasoning. To improve, aim to expand on your points with more detailed explanations or real-world examples to reach a higher band level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Initially', 'Moreover', 'In addition'). There are also issues with sentence-level cohesion, such as the awkward phrasing in the introduction and the repetitive nature of the conclusion ('In conclusion to conclude'). The logical progression of ideas is present but could be smoother with more varied linking words and better control over paragraph transitions.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'attracted', and 'fashion'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'worldly fashion' instead of 'global fashion' and 'reknown as fashionista'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated or idiomatic language limits the score. Try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations and avoid repeating the same words throughout the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('individuals... gets impressed', 'they wants to reknown'), punctuation errors (missing spaces after commas), and awkward phrasing ('the adaption of dresses in accordance to the global fashion on the people'). While the meaning is usually understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic agreement and punctuation rules.
