Student answer (Band 6.0)

Today many people's dressing sense is highly influenced by global fashion trends. There are various reasons behind this strong influence. This easy will discuss how the global fashion has become a strong influence on people's lives before explaining why I believe it is a negative development for society and individuals.

The main reasons behind a strong fashion influence on people's lives are the expanding of social media and global fashion marketing. By using of social media, we can check out any contents from any side of the glove. As a result, fashion trends do not remain secret at any parts of the world. Users of social media are constantly taking every new trend subconsciously, and eager to follow every fashion which is worldwide popular. Another important factor is global fashion marketing. Large garment manufacturers often promote their products through magazines, television, a wide range of digital and traditional media platforms. Thus, people easily learn about their products and follow the global fashion trends.

I believe, the negative development of following global fashion trends outweigh the positive development. Influencing by global fashion trends create cultural degradation. People's own traditional fashions may be affected by foreign fashion trends, or even lost forever. As clothing is one of the main factors in culture, by using more of foreign clothing may hamper cultural harmony. Moreover, trending global fashion may create a financial crisis on individuals. If people see anyone to follow the current trend, a demand to gain it can be risen on the person's mind. Later, it may create a financial pressure unless the person can fulfill the demand.

To conclude, global fashion has become a strong influence on people's lives for expanding of social media and the worldwide fashion strategies. I strongly believe it is a negative development for degradation of cultural harmony and creating a financial upheaval on individuals' minds.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying the drivers of global fashion and providing a clear stance on its negative impact. The ideas are relevant, such as the role of social media and the potential for cultural degradation. However, the development is somewhat limited; the argument regarding 'financial crisis' is a bit simplistic and could have been supported with more nuanced examples. The position is consistent throughout, but the depth of analysis could be improved to reach a higher band by exploring the counter-arguments or providing more specific real-world examples of cultural shifts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the causes from the effects. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'As a result', 'Another important factor', and 'Moreover', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the use of 'the expanding of' and 'the negative development of'. Referencing is generally clear, though some phrasing, like 'any parts of the world', feels slightly unnatural, which occasionally impacts the flow of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'cultural degradation', 'garment manufacturers', and 'financial upheaval'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'check out any contents', 'taking every new trend', and 'expanding of social media'. These errors do not impede communication, but they demonstrate a lack of precision and flexibility in using less common lexical items, which prevents a higher score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the expanding of', 'the negative development'), preposition usage ('at any parts of the world'), and verb forms ('Influencing by global fashion trends create'). Some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'If people see anyone to follow the current trend, a demand to gain it can be risen'. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the writer's argument.
