Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the modern era, most of the individuals follow Western fashion trends to dress up. One section of society thinks it is a positive development, others oppose it. I beleive largelly it is a positive development with the statement and discuss my view points in the following paragraphs.

To commence with, positive developments help to enhance personality. To elaborate, nowadays Western culture has become part of daily fashion styles such as wearing jeans, shirts and coat-pants which helps a person to look better and feel more comfortable wearing daily and most of the youngsters prefer to wear Western in the office because they to look professional. Moreover, spread equality among people. If all individuals wear Western clothes they will look the same as foreigners look in their getups because some people make negative comments on a person who wears local culture clothes.

However, people will forget their own culture and traditions. Today adults like to wear foreign clothes on an everyday basis and they are forgetting their own local fashion such as kurta pajama and suit salwar. For example, a survey was conducted in India that showed that more than 60 percent of adults adopt western culture and forget their own traditions and cultural values.

To conclude, adapting western culture is not bad it spreads equality among people and also enhance thier personality in many ways but adults should not forget their local culture and values at least they wear local fashion clothes on their festivals to preserve their culture and tradition.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the influence of global fashion and the evaluation of this trend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention personality enhancement and equality, these points are not fully explored or supported with deep analysis. The argument regarding equality is particularly weak, as the link between wearing Western clothes and social equality is not clearly explained. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced reasoning and ensure your position is consistently maintained throughout the essay. The conclusion introduces a balanced view, but the body paragraphs lack the depth required for a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'To commence with', 'Moreover', 'To conclude'). There are instances where the flow between sentences is abrupt, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition from professional appearance to equality feels disjointed. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the logical progression of ideas could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one will significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on common, basic terms like 'good', 'bad', and 'clothes'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'coat-pants' (which is not standard English) and 'getups'. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, it is limited. To improve, you should focus on using more sophisticated collocations and precise terminology related to culture and fashion, and pay closer attention to standard phrasing to avoid awkward expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'I beleive largelly it is a positive development with the statement', 'they to look professional', and 'at least they wear local fashion clothes'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, and there are several spelling errors (e.g., 'beleive', 'largelly', 'thier'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for basic spelling and punctuation will help improve your accuracy.
