Student answer (Band 6.5)
Various ways people style their outfits today are as a result of global fashion trends. Global fashion styles have become influential in people’s lives because of the evolution of social media. In my opinion, this is a negative development because it has increased the rate of peer pressure in the world.
Universal fashion patterns has become popular with the use of social media. The more social media evolves, the faster it is for people all over the globe to see these fashion statements and want to style themselves exactly like that. For instance, the Paris fashion week wasn’t very popular to people outside of Paris 30years ago and this is because the internet was not in existence by then. Nowadays, social media helps to circulate these Paris fashion weeks all over the internet for people in different parts of the world to see, and when they see it they get easily influenced and they want to dress exactly like their favorite celebrity.
Peer pressure is one of the negative effects of fashion trends as people no longer want to be unique, they see a fashion style on the internet and quickly want to be like that person, they want to be styled like them cause they want to have a sense of belonging, they even go as far as doing whatever it takes to purchase that fashion item even though it is overpriced, cause they know this will be the trend for a while and such person doesn’t want to feel left out . For example, in the olden days, people especially women dressed modestly and uniquely according to their body type, they didn’t follow trends and their clothes were styled in ways that will make them feel comfortable, they didn’t follow trends or pattens. But recently the rate of dressing provocatively has been so high because that is the trend and you won’t be regarded if you do anything outside what is in vogue .
In conclusion, global fashion trends has become really popular because of the use of social media, the average individual spends more than 10hours a day surfing the internet and they find the fashionable styles there. On the other hand, these developments also have its downside because it has caused a lot of peer pressure among teens, they want to dress and act like someone else.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the influence of global fashion and the evaluation of whether this is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the discussion of social media and peer pressure. While the examples provided, such as the reference to Paris Fashion Week, are relevant, the argument could be strengthened by exploring more diverse impacts of global fashion, such as economic or cultural exchange, to provide a more balanced or nuanced perspective. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, though it introduces a slight shift in focus by mentioning the amount of time spent online.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'For instance,' 'Nowadays,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. For example, the transition between the discussion of social media and the specific example of Paris Fashion Week is functional but could be more sophisticated. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences are quite long and could benefit from better internal structure to improve readability.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'fashion statements,' 'in vogue,' and 'provocatively.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler phrasing. Some word choices are slightly imprecise or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'fashion trends' and 'social media.' To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate more varied synonyms and collocations related to the topic of globalization and consumer behavior.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'Universal fashion patterns has' (should be 'have') and 'global fashion trends has' (should be 'have'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas and unnecessary spaces before them. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. More attention to proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
