Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the modern life, global fashion has been providing huge collection of clothes around the world. It is said that, many aspects of the way people dress are influenced by global fashion trend todays. I believe this is a largely positive development because global fashion gives people more choices and allows them to express their personality.

To begin with, social media has became more popular in the world because many individuals are spending more time on online application such as Instagram, TikTok, and Youtube. For example, amny young generation often try to copy influencer and celebrities and Brands such as Zara, H&M and Nike sell similar clothes around the world. In addition, people are following the international trends, styles and cultures. Many brand collection are become more popular during short time around the world.

On the other hand, people are spending large amount of money on clothes and unneccery thing because they do not realize their waste of money. Moreover, also some young people have pressured to follow these trends. For example, many local shops and markets are losing their money because many people cannot purchase their traditional cloths and traditional fashion become less popular around the world. Fruthermore, fast fashion is creating a more waste cloths.

To conclusion, many people adopt international fashion trend instead of losing their own cultures and traditional styles. By means of social media have strong influenced people around the world because they provide new cloths collections, discount offers, and useful information through fashion trends.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the influence of global fashion and the evaluation of whether this is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the influence of social media is explained, the discussion on the negative impacts, such as the loss of traditional culture and environmental waste, is a bit brief and could have been expanded with more specific examples. The conclusion is slightly contradictory, as it suggests people adopt international trends 'instead of losing' their culture, which is confusing. Overall, the ideas are relevant but lack the depth required for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'Furthermore', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly misused, such as 'To conclusion' instead of 'In conclusion'. Additionally, the internal flow within paragraphs is occasionally disrupted by grammatical errors, making some sentences feel disjointed. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother to achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. There are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'unneccery' (unnecessary), 'cloths' (clothes), and 'amny' (many). While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'influencer', 'celebrities', and 'fast fashion', the overall control is limited. The repetition of basic words like 'people' and 'around the world' suggests a need for a wider range of synonyms and more precise collocations to convey ideas more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'social media has became' (has become), 'Many brand collection are become' (Many brand collections are becoming), and 'some young people have pressured' (are pressured). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency throughout the text. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band.
