Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, many aspects of the way an individual dress today are influenced by global fashion trends. The global fashion has become a strong influence due to heavy usage of social media in current years. An individual spend more time on social media and know the fashion of the current market. For example, the actor's post influencing young adults about the different fashion such as hairstyles and types of clothes. While this trend offers certain advantages, I believe it also brings some drawbacks, making it both a positive and a negative development.

On the one hand, dressing according to the global fashion trend can be considered a positive development because it provides variety of choices to a person. This is because people become tired of wearing same kind of clothes everyday. For example, it enables an individual to wear different types of clothes according to the occasion such as wearing designer shorts during parties, embroidery shirts on beaches and so on. As a result, influencing from the global fashion trends help people to have a different choice to wear at the same time. Moreover, this trend offers cultural exchange. People from various countries provide different trend according to their nations, this enables an individual to know about the culture of different countries. This helps people to try different kinds of clothes worn in other nations.

On the other hand, there are several negative consequences of this trend. Firstly, it creates financial pressure on an individual. Young adults with lower income groups influenced from the global fashion trends to purchase expensive clothes and items from the reputed brands such as Lacoste, Rolex and so on. Thus, they push themselves to buy this products which in turn creates financial pressure. Secondly, this trend leads to a loss of traditional wears. More modern fashion revolves everyday, which enables individual to forget the traditional clothing of their culture.

In conclusion, although the people dressed according to global fashion trends create concern about financial pressure and loss of traditional wears, it also provides some benefits such as wide variety of choices and cultural exchange. Therefore, I would consider this trend to be mainly positive development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the influence of global fashion and providing a clear position on whether it is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, such as social media usage and cultural exchange. However, the development is somewhat uneven; while the points are clear, some arguments, like the 'loss of traditional wears,' could be more deeply explored with specific examples. The conclusion is slightly contradictory, as the body paragraphs discuss both sides, but the final sentence labels it 'mainly positive' without fully justifying why the benefits outweigh the financial and cultural drawbacks mentioned earlier. Overall, the response is well-structured and meets the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, such as the positive aspects of variety and the negative aspects of financial pressure. Cohesive devices like 'On the one hand,' 'Moreover,' and 'Firstly' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'This is because' or 'For example.' Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences, such as 'As a result, influencing from the global fashion trends help people,' are slightly awkward in their connection to the previous point. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate distinct ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'cultural exchange,' 'financial pressure,' and 'reputed brands.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'influencing from the global fashion trends' (should be 'being influenced by') and 'wearing embroidery shirts' (should be 'embroidered shirts'). The range is sufficient to communicate, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. Some phrasing is repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'global fashion trends' throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'an individual dress' (should be 'dresses'), 'the actor's post influencing' (should be 'posts influence'), and 'buy this products' (should be 'these products'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in article usage and prepositional phrases. Despite these errors, the writer demonstrates an ability to construct complex sentences, and the mistakes do not significantly impede communication.
