Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is a point of debate whether global fashion trends influenced on people's lives is a positive or negative development. A significant chunk of society welcomes this practice, whereas the remaining members oppose this idea. I entirely accept this phenomenon and explain why in the paragraph below.

There are numerous arguments which go along with my personal perspective. First and most prominent lies in the fact that human beings should be extra careful with their decisions. I firmly believe that following trends is becoming a fashion in its own way. The fashion is rapidly changing due to the demand of public. Nowadays, people dress up them according to the ongoing fashion. They change their interest according to the fashion. They want to be become attractive yet follow ongoing trends which reflects their own personality. However, the situation changed drastically after a couple of years.

There are several indispensable arguments which are incumbent to be discussed. Although, global trends become such a strong influence on everyone's life. This trend reflects the individual's personality. For instance, in my home country, people's want to talk or sit with them who are attractive, good looking, and dashing. Their way of choosing trends shows their image where they stand. Hence, the government should make proposed policies to make people pragmatic in their standpoint and for a better living standard.

All the above discussed assertions lead to the conclusion that although people enjoy numerous benefits due to the trends. So, in my opinion, it would be wise enough to say that the global fashion trends influenced on people's lives is a positive development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, but the development of ideas is inconsistent. While you state your position clearly, the supporting arguments are often vague or repetitive. For instance, the claim that 'human beings should be extra careful with their decisions' lacks a clear connection to global fashion trends. Furthermore, the suggestion that the government should make policies to make people 'pragmatic' is tangential and not well-integrated into the main argument about fashion. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, well-explained reason that directly answers the 'how' and 'why' components of the prompt, providing concrete examples rather than general assertions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is frequently interrupted by unclear transitions and disjointed sentences. While you use some cohesive devices like 'First and most prominent' and 'Hence', their usage is sometimes mechanical or contextually inappropriate. For example, the transition 'However, the situation changed drastically after a couple of years' appears abruptly without a clear link to the previous point. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally confusing, making it difficult for the reader to follow your line of reasoning. Improving the use of linking words to create smoother transitions between sentences would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'ongoing fashion' and 'global fashion trends', which limits the sophistication of your argument. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'be become attractive' and 'influenced on people's lives' (the verb 'influence' is transitive here and does not require 'on'). To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary and ensure that your word choices are accurate and natural in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement, such as 'people's want to talk', and incorrect preposition usage, such as 'influenced on'. Additionally, there are punctuation errors, such as the sentence fragment 'Although, global trends become such a strong influence on everyone's life.' While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of sentence construction and grammatical rules.
