Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, fashion is more popular on an international level, and people are heavily affected by seeing the fashion trends of others. Furthermore, many aspects of the way people dress today are influenced by global fashion trends. This essay will discuss how global fashion has become such a strong influence on people's lives and explain why this is a negative development for a nation's economy.
There are several reasons why this situation occurs. Firstly, in recent years, fashion has become highly popular worldwide, and almost everyone follows recent trends. Secondly, people buy luxury items mainly to show off their status to others. For example, a few months ago, the Rolls-Royce company announced a new, luxurious customized car. It became very popular in Dubai, which made the Indian public want the vehicle so much that they traveled to Dubai specifically to purchase this car. I think this trend has a negative impact on a country's economic growth.
Moreover, if citizens buy luxury items from another country, they spend their own nation's wealth abroad. This increases the other country's economic wealth in the global market while negatively affecting their home nation's wealth. For instance, if the public purchases an iPhone, they support America since the USA is the headquarters of Apple devices. When people spend money on foreign products, it results in a financial loss for India. In the global market, this causes the value of the Indian Rupee to decrease compared to the US Dollar.
In conclusion, global fashion is driven by trend-following behavior and the desire to display luxury. This development is ultimately negative because it weakens the domestic economy and devalues the local currency by shifting wealth to foreign nations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the influence of global fashion and the evaluation of this trend. However, the development is somewhat narrow. The essay focuses almost exclusively on the economic impact of luxury consumption, specifically using the example of the Indian economy. While this is a relevant point, the prompt asks about 'people's lives' in a broader sense, and the argument could have been strengthened by discussing social or cultural impacts as well. The position is clear throughout, but the scope of the argument is limited, preventing it from reaching the higher bands.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the reasons for the trend from the economic consequences. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the transition between the general concept of fashion trends and the specific example of the Rolls-Royce car is slightly abrupt, and the connection between fashion and luxury car purchases is not fully explained, which slightly affects the flow of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task, with terms like 'domestic economy', 'devalues', and 'trend-following behavior'. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. For example, the word 'wealth' is used multiple times in the third paragraph, and 'luxury items' is repeated. While the meaning is always clear and there are no significant spelling errors, the essay lacks the more sophisticated, precise, or idiomatic vocabulary required for a higher band score. The use of 'Indian public' and 'financial loss' is functional but basic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are grammatically accurate, and errors are rare and do not impede communication. For instance, the use of conditional structures ('if citizens buy...', 'if the public purchases...') is handled correctly. However, the range of complex structures is somewhat limited; the essay relies heavily on straightforward subject-verb-object patterns. To achieve a higher score, more varied subordinate clauses and a wider range of grammatical structures would be beneficial.
