Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the modern world, it is evident that global fashion trends have a powerful impact on how people dress. There are many reasons for this influence, and I acknowledge some drawbacks. I believe it is overall a positive development.

There are two main reasons why global fashion become so influential. Firstly the rise of internet and social media has made the fashion accessible to everyone. Platforms like instagram and twitter gives people wo ideas of fashion in different part of the world. Secondly, globalization and online shopping have made international brands affordable and available. A teenager in Pakistan can order online from different Pakistani brands such as limelight, Khaddi and many other brands which can not possible 20 years ago.

I believe this trend is very positive. it allows people to express their creativity and individuality. It can also promote cultural exchange as traditional Pakistani embroidery can now be mixed with western clothes and creating a unique ideas. Furthermore, the fashion industries and brands creates million of jobs worldwide from designer to factory workers.

However, there are some negative impacts. The biggest problem is the fast fashion which encourages people to buy cheap, low quality clothes and threw them quickly. This may cause environmental damage and waste. It also cause people to lose interest in their own culture.

In conclusion, fast fashion has environmental concerns, and global fashion has greater benefits. It promote self creativity and promote culture. It also promote economical level. When different type of people interact with each other they make friends and learnt a lot of things from each other.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt: it explains the influence of global fashion and provides a clear opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, such as the role of social media and the environmental impact of fast fashion. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the positive aspects are supported with examples like cultural exchange, the negative side is treated more briefly. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that both sides of the argument are developed with equal depth and provide more nuanced analysis rather than listing points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Furthermore', and 'However' to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between ideas could be smoother. For instance, the final paragraph introduces new ideas about social interaction that were not fully integrated into the previous arguments. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph flows naturally into the next would enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'globalization', 'individuality', and 'environmental damage'. There are some instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'threw them quickly' instead of 'discard them' and 'promote economical level' which is not a standard collocation. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, you should aim to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and topic-specific terminology to demonstrate greater flexibility and precision in your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('social media has made', but 'platforms... gives', 'brands creates', 'it promote'), missing articles ('the rise of internet'), and tense inconsistencies ('which can not possible'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your verb forms are consistent throughout the essay.
