Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the influence of global fashion and expressing a positive opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. The essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the depth of the argument. The explanation of why fashion is a positive development is underdeveloped, relying on general statements rather than specific, well-supported examples. To improve, you should expand on your points with more detailed reasoning and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for full development of your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' are used, but the content within these sections does not always logically contrast or support the main argument effectively. There are also issues with referencing; for instance, the use of 'they' is sometimes ambiguous, making it unclear whether you are referring to the fashion trends or the people. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words will help create a smoother flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple, repetitive terms such as 'latest clothing', 'new', and 'clothes'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'cost of this customs' (should be 'cost of these items') and 'sewing design' (which is imprecise). To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'consumerism', 'aesthetic', 'globalisation', or 'influential', and ensure you use them in the correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the way people dress... are influenced'), tense inconsistencies (e.g., 'they used a various types'), and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tenses will significantly improve your writing.
