Student answer (Band 5.5)

In contemporary society, many individuals dress these days are influenced by international fashion trends due to its growing influence on different areas of life and society. From my perspective, I strongly believe that this development has a positive effect on public. This essay will explain why this position is justified with some reasons and multiple examples.

One of the main reasons supporting my view is that the fashion industries today are creating incredible novel designs which attracts a lot of people worldwide. In other words, numerous apparel companies are working on unique designs to fulfil the demand of buyers. For instance, oversized jeans and t-shirts have been introduced in the market which has made an immense influence on youngsters and adults. Furthermore, some brands are also selling dresses with mirror work and by attaching charming ornaments on them. Consequently, everyone is purchasing and trying a wide repertoire of latest clothes.

Another compelling reason for my viewpoint is that numerous fashion brands use television advertisements and social media as a source of marketing by which they publish their inexpensive modern apparels. For example, Gucci is one of the prominent global clothing brands which publish their cheap articles using platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and other TV channels. Subsequently, making a great impact on buyers by designing and marketing their authentic clothes all around the world.

In conclusion, I firmly consider that the international fashion trends play a vital role in influencing every person with inexpensive and fascinating articles. Therefore, both the affluents and underprivileged individuals are being benefited by purchasing modern apparels for their marriages and other events.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the influence of global fashion and the evaluation of whether this is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the argument that fashion is positive because it is 'inexpensive' is not fully supported, and the claim that Gucci sells 'cheap articles' is factually questionable and undermines the logic of the argument. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced analysis rather than relying on broad generalizations. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, but the overall depth of the discussion remains limited.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central topic. There is a logical progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'In other words,' 'For instance,' and 'Consequently' are used to link sentences and ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure helps the reader follow your argument without difficulty. To improve, try to vary your cohesive devices and ensure that the flow between sentences feels more natural and less formulaic.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'contemporary society,' 'repertoire,' and 'underprivileged.' However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors. For example, describing Gucci products as 'cheap articles' is inaccurate in the context of a luxury brand, and 'affluents' is not the correct noun form (it should be 'the affluent'). While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, you need to use less common lexical items with greater precision and awareness of style to achieve a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, 'many individuals dress these days are influenced' is syntactically incorrect, and 'the fashion industries today are creating' should be singular. Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'the affluents.' While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and sentence structure will help improve your accuracy.
