Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, several features of the dressing style of people seems to be inspired by the fashion trends worldwide. Global fashion has become a quite influential part of an individual's life mainly because of the easy access and excessive exposure to the social media, where people get inspired by different celebrities. Personally, I believe that this is a negative development as most of the people get extremely fascinated by new trendy fashions, and they gradually forget about their cultural dresses and traditional fashion.

Since the technology has advanced and the internet has become so popular, people have started following western cultures by mocking the outfits of social media stars. This practice is being conducted since a long time now as the youth is very active in the fashion industry, and all the young individuals these days don't want to stay behind in terms of outfits, styles, and aesthetics. Along with this, global fashion, in recent times, is not only limited to the cloths like it used to be in the last decade. For instance, the introduction of fashion shows is a new initiative taken to educate and aware the fashion lovers about the latest designs and styles of outfits as well as hair. As a result, the public copies the hair styles of models in the fashion industry, which signifies the craze and the influence of global fashion on people's lives.

Keeping in mind the latest fashion updates, I consider most of them to be inappropriate in terms of the culture and the religion. Numerous new dresses of men and women are designed in such a way that doesn't align with the traditional thoughts and mindset. In addition, if the youth gets attracted by the current global fashion then, this might lead to the deterioration of cultural trends as the youth will wear them occasionally by which they will gradually be forgotten.

In conclusion, following trending fashions and staying updated from the latest styles is a normal practice these days due to increased exposure of the youngsters to the social media and fashion shows. Therefore, in my perspective each individual ought to keep a balance between cultural and global fashion and must not become biased by criticizing the aspects of a specific side.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the influence of global fashion and a personal opinion on whether this is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout, particularly in the focus on the potential loss of cultural identity. However, the development of ideas could be more nuanced. For instance, the discussion on 'fashion shows' as a reason for influence is somewhat underdeveloped and could have been linked more clearly to the prompt's focus on global trends. The argument remains a bit repetitive regarding the 'youth' and 'cultural deterioration' points. To reach a higher band, ensure each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported idea rather than restating the same concern.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons for influence from the critical evaluation. Cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'In addition', and 'Therefore' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there is occasional awkwardness in the flow, such as the phrase 'by which they will gradually be forgotten' in the third paragraph, which is grammatically clunky and disrupts the logical progression of the sentence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, such as 'deterioration', 'aesthetics', and 'fascinated'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'mocking the outfits' (which implies ridicule rather than imitation) and 'educate and aware' (which should be 'educate and make aware'). These errors do not impede communication but prevent the essay from reaching a higher band for lexical range and precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is consistently clear, there are frequent minor errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include 'several features... seems to be' (subject-verb agreement error), 'Since the technology has advanced' (misuse of 'since' for 'as' or 'because'), and 'conducted since a long time' (incorrect tense/preposition usage). These errors are noticeable but do not cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and the correct use of time-related prepositions.
