Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's world, global fashion trends heavily shapes the dressing choice of people. In my opinion, it is a positive change and has various benefit.

Today global fashion trends have become a strong influence on people's lives because of globalisation. The current world is more connected that it used to be in past, countries are dependent on each others for multiple essential resources. This has led to many people travelling from their own countries to a different country for various purpose. When they return from that country, they carry some of its culture with them, which often includes fashion. Additionally, social media use has also increased, and people see other people from all around the world and imitate the clothings they like.

In my opinion, it is a positive change because it gives boost to clothing industry. It has also created multiple new industries such as fashion magzine. The boost to these industries creates new jobs for people. Furthermore, it increases the innovation in clothings overall, as because of the increase in demands, more and more investors are attracted toward this sector. For example, current fabrics are more durable than fabrics used in the past, which reduces the environmental impact. It also reduces the unnecessary amount of money that a customer had to spend on clothes, they can use that money now for different essential use case.

In conclusion, I think the global fashion has strongly influenced people's lives and this is a positive development as it creates new jobs for the people and increases the amount of innovation in the clothing industry.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the influence of global fashion and the evaluation of whether this is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention globalisation and social media as drivers, the explanation remains quite general. Similarly, the arguments for the positive impact—such as job creation and innovation—are valid but could be supported with more specific, detailed examples to reach a higher band. The response covers all requirements but lacks the depth of analysis expected for a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, each with a central topic. There is a logical progression from the causes of the trend to the evaluation of its impact. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the discussion of globalisation and social media could be more integrated. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'globalisation', 'environmental impact', and 'innovation'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'heavily shapes the dressing choice' (should be 'dressing choices' or 'fashion choices') and 'gives boost to' (should be 'gives a boost to'). You also use 'clothings', which is an uncountable noun and should simply be 'clothing'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring correct noun forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement ('global fashion trends heavily shapes' should be 'shape') and article usage ('the clothing industry' is correct, but 'the fashion magzine' is missing an article or needs pluralisation). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'The current world is more connected that it used to be in past'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage would be beneficial.
