Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, global fashion trends have become an increasingly significant part of modern life, influencing what people wear and how they represent themselves. This influence has grown mainly because of social media, international brands and greater culture exchange. Although, this trend has some negetive consequences, I believe it is largely a positive development.

On one hand, one major for the growing influence of global fashion is the rapid expansion of social media. Platforms such as instagram, snapchat, facebook and youtube allow to people to see trending clothing styles from different countries instantly. Influencers and celebrities frequently introduce new trends, which are copied by millions of people. In addition, international fashion brands advertise their products across different countries, religious, making similar clothing available to consumers worldwide. Globalisation has also increased international travel and culture exchange, allowing people to adopt styles from other societies

On the other hand, there are several advantage of this development. Firstly, global fashion gives the accessibility to people a wider range of choices and allows to express their personalities and creativity through clothing. secondly, it can encourage culture exchange, as people become familiar with traditional designs and style from different parts of the world. To illustrates, clothing inspired by Asian, African or European cultures can become popular internationaly

In light of the above, global fashion can also have negetive effects. The constant pressure to follow new trends may encourage excessive spending, particularly among young people who want keep up with influencers and their friends. Furthermore, the fast-fashion industry can contribute to environmental problems because large quantities of inexpensive clothing are produced and discarded quickly.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying the causes of global fashion influence and providing a balanced view on its impact. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the causes are well-explained, the discussion on the positive and negative aspects could be more deeply explored. For instance, the negative impact of fast fashion is mentioned but not fully linked back to the 'global' nature of the trend as effectively as it could be. Overall, the response is relevant and meets the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, there are some instances where the flow is slightly mechanical, and the transition between the positive and negative points could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentences, such as 'one major for the growing influence', are missing key words, which slightly disrupts the flow of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at topic-specific language like 'globalisation', 'fast-fashion industry', and 'international brands'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'negetive' (repeated), 'internationaly', and 'religious' (used incorrectly in place of 'regions'). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, you should aim for more precise word choices and ensure consistent accuracy in spelling and collocation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'allow to people to see' (should be 'allow people to see'), 'there are several advantage' (should be 'advantages'), and 'To illustrates' (should be 'To illustrate'). While these errors are frequent, they do not prevent the reader from understanding the message. The control of punctuation is generally good, but the sentence structure occasionally feels slightly repetitive or awkward due to the missing articles or incorrect verb forms.
