Student answer (Band 6.0)

The way people dress nowadays in many cases is influenced by global fashion trends. In this essay I am going to state reasons which lead to this factor. I believe it solely depends upon perosn intention.

The world today has now become a global village. People all over the world are interconnected with each other. Thus, people now are influenced by culture, fashion and other country's beliefs. Consequently, appreciating a fashion trend altogether and using it has now become a global fashion trend. This factor makes people wear clothing to get appreciation and attention globally irrespective to their nation's clothing.

People now tend to post their videos online wearing clothes which are part of global fashion trend.

From my knowledge, it solely depends on person's intention. If a person is wearing clothes related to global fashion trends to seek attention and validation then he is just imitating his personality. An imitation of personality to make himself prove that I am better than the majority of people around me would lead to narcissism. This narcissistic approach would cause societal rifts. Moreover, personality disorder can also be occured in extreme situations.

While some people wear the dresses to seek attention, there are people who follow global fashion trends because they look good in them. If someone is wearing clothes which are trending in fashion because he want to look good then there is nothing bad in that.

However, following global fashion trends is now an attempt to just get socially accepted. For example, people who do not tend to follow fashion trends are now being looked down . I believe clothes are accessories and making a huge deal about them is waste of time and money.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying the influence of globalization and offering a personal perspective on whether it is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the link between fashion and 'narcissism' or 'personality disorder' is a significant leap that lacks sufficient logical support or real-world examples. The position is clear, but the argument could be strengthened by exploring more balanced viewpoints or providing more concrete evidence regarding the social impact of fashion trends. The essay tends to over-generalize, particularly in the final paragraph, which limits the depth of the analysis required for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a general progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. For example, the transition 'Consequently' is used, but other links between sentences feel abrupt. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'this factor,' which refers back to a broad concept rather than a specific antecedent. While the paragraphing is present, the logical flow between the discussion of social media, psychological impacts, and personal choice could be smoother. The essay remains coherent, but the internal structure of the arguments lacks the sophistication required for a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision needed for a higher score. There are some instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'an imitation of personality to make himself prove' and 'personality disorder can also be occured.' The student relies on basic vocabulary like 'good' and 'bad' to describe complex social phenomena. While the meaning is generally clear, there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic control. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise academic collocations and avoiding repetitive word choices.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'perosn intention' (spelling), 'other country's beliefs' (should be plural), 'personality disorder can also be occured' (incorrect passive voice), and 'looked down' (missing 'on'). While the errors do not completely prevent understanding, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. The control over punctuation and sentence construction is inconsistent, and the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive versus active voice.
