Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's modern world, global fashion has a strong impact on people's lives. It is seen worldwide, people's dressing sense are greatly influenced by global fashion trends. Many people think that it is a way to be connected with the society. On the other hand, some people think that it has many negative aspects as well. In my point of view, it has more negative effect as compared to positive effects.

To begin with, following the trend makes people supress their personal choices and they are just chassing whatever is in the trend. For instance, there are a lot of social media trends which people know that they have bad influence on society but still they do it to be the part of the society.

Additionally, people lose their personal thinking and lose their creativity by blindly following the fashion trends. For example, over the course of years, many trends have made a come back and people are blindly following them, regardless whether it is comfortable for them or not.

Moreover, due to global trend following people are losing their clutural diversity. It also effects the beauty of different cultures. It is evident from history that world has lost many cultures as people stopped practising them.

Lastly, I believe that one of the biggest factor is finance. Global fashion trends influence on normal people's lives effects them financially. Many people who try to keep up with trends spend a lot of money which becomes a huge burden for them.

In conclusion, many aspects of the way people dress today are influenced by global trends which has many negative impacts including financial burden, cultural loss and loss of creativity.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the influence of global fashion and the evaluation of whether this is positive or negative. You clearly state your position that the impact is largely negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'cultural diversity' is mentioned but not fully explained with a concrete example. Similarly, the financial argument is introduced in the final body paragraph but lacks depth. To reach a higher band, ensure each main idea is supported by a specific, detailed example or a more thorough explanation of the causal link between the trend and the consequence.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific point. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' to signal the progression of your argument. However, the flow within paragraphs is occasionally mechanical. Some sentences feel disjointed, and the referencing is sometimes repetitive. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the transition between sentences is smoother. For example, instead of starting multiple sentences with 'people', try to use pronouns or relative clauses to connect ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'cultural diversity', 'financial burden', and 'global fashion trends'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'supress' (suppress), 'chassing' (chasing), 'clutural' (cultural), and 'effects' used instead of 'affects'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on mastering the spelling of common academic terms and pay closer attention to the difference between nouns and verbs, such as 'effect' and 'affect'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'people's dressing sense are' should be 'is', and 'one of the biggest factor' should be 'factors'. There are also issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement throughout the text. While you attempt complex structures, they are often marred by these slips. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and proofread your work specifically for small grammatical inconsistencies that occur when you attempt more complex sentence constructions.
