Student answer (Band 6.0)

These days, global fashion trends have great influence on the dressing sense of people. This influence can be negative as well as positive impact on people's lives. In this essay, I will discuss both aspects in details.

To commence with, fashion is followed by young people globally. The social media is one of the most common source used to influence people by different fashion brands. The advertisements on these platforms attract people to follow them. For example, as we see people getting free items to promote different fashion products on their personal social media accounts. Therefore, people start following those brands and encourage others to but those products.

Furthermore, these trends can be positive or negative development. Many people start earning through promoting these fashion items, which can be considered as a positive development. They can also get chance to participate in different fashion shows, which helps to build global connections. On the other hand, global fashion trend can be negative for some people. For instance, people force themselves to buy those expensive stuff, which they can not afford. These situations can lead to financial stress and anxiety. Moreover, buying something online results into fraud activities. Hence, global fashion can be positive or negative progress at same time.

To conclude this essay, I would like to say that global fashion is popular because of internet and cheap online shopping. Although, people can buy stylish clothes easily, but it ruins local traditions and damages our environment. So, everyone should be aware of global fashion's consequences.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying the influence of social media and discussing both positive and negative aspects. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the point about 'fraud activities' is introduced abruptly without sufficient explanation or connection to the broader theme of fashion. While a position is clear, the arguments lack the depth required for a higher band. The conclusion introduces new points—local traditions and environmental damage—that were not discussed in the body paragraphs, which weakens the overall logical flow of the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'To commence with,' 'Furthermore,' and 'On the other hand.' However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural. The progression of ideas within paragraphs is generally clear, but the transition between the body paragraphs and the conclusion is weak, as the conclusion introduces entirely new arguments rather than summarizing the points already made. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure could be more cohesive.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. The student relies on common phrases like 'great influence,' 'positive development,' and 'expensive stuff.' There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'encouraging others to but those products' (likely a typo for 'buy') and 'results into fraud activities' (should be 'results in'). To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate more sophisticated, topic-specific vocabulary related to consumerism, digital marketing, and socioeconomic impacts.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'This influence can be negative as well as positive impact' (missing 'a' or 'have'), 'the most common source used' (should be 'sources'), and 'results into' (preposition error). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure is often repetitive. The student needs to demonstrate better control over complex sentence forms and ensure subject-verb agreement and article usage are more accurate.
