Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the influence of global fashion and providing an opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. The reasons provided for the influence of fashion (social media, looking modern, inner satisfaction) are listed rather than explored in depth. The opinion section is somewhat confusing, particularly the suggestion that people should avoid those who are not well-dressed, which lacks logical support and nuance. To reach a higher band, you need to provide more detailed explanations and concrete examples to support your arguments, ensuring your reasoning is clear and persuasive throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the phrase 'In addition, this trend is not limited to country level but widespread globally even so' is disjointed. The transition between ideas within paragraphs is sometimes abrupt, and the logical progression is hindered by awkward phrasing. While there is an attempt to use linking words like 'Firstly' and 'In conclusion', the overall flow is inconsistent. Improving the variety and accuracy of your cohesive devices will help your ideas connect more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'calm their inner satisfaction' and 'not been fascinating by anyone'. Some phrases are repetitive, and the essay relies on basic vocabulary to convey complex ideas. To improve, you should focus on using more sophisticated collocations and idiomatic expressions appropriate for an academic context. Expanding your range of vocabulary will allow you to express your opinions with greater clarity and impact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'fashion industry has more scope'), missing articles, and incorrect preposition usage (e.g., 'affected with' instead of 'affected by'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the text from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy will significantly improve your score.
