Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the influence of global fashion and expressing a clear negative opinion regarding its impact on culture. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention the influence of the fashion industry and social pressure, the arguments lack depth and supporting evidence. For example, the discussion on Navratri is a relevant personal example, but the explanation of how global trends 'destroy' culture is somewhat repetitive and lacks a nuanced analysis. To improve, ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea with clear logical links to the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression between sentences is often weak. The use of cohesive devices is frequently mechanical or inaccurate, such as starting sentences with 'Additionally' or 'In recent times' without a clear connection to the preceding thought. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the third paragraph where the transition between the fashion industry and the economic impact on the middle class is abrupt. The use of 'Such as' to start a sentence is grammatically incorrect and disrupts the flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'foster' used incorrectly, 'vogue' used as a noun to mean 'fashion trend' in an unnatural way, and 'exorbitant' used in a context that does not quite fit. Some phrases are non-standard, such as 'all most appeal to the global trend'. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'heritage' and 'exorbitant', the overall range is insufficient to express complex ideas precisely, and errors in spelling and word formation are frequent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'global fashion have been destroyed'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'had been celebrated'), and sentence fragments (e.g., 'Such as western wear...'). Punctuation is also problematic, with inconsistent spacing and misuse of commas. The range of structures is limited, relying mostly on simple sentences. To reach a higher band, you need to focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that tense usage is consistent throughout the essay.
