Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The student's response addresses the task by discussing how global fashion influences people's lives. They provide some examples, such as fashion shows and the concept of soft power that connects different cultures. However, the argument lacks depth and clarity in some areas, particularly in explaining how global fashion trends directly impact individuals' behavior and choices. This lack of detail limits the effectiveness of their argument. Overall, the response largely fulfills the task requirements but could benefit from more precise examples and exploration of both the positive and negative aspects in greater depth.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The coherence and cohesion of the text are somewhat effective, as the ideas follow a logical sequence; however, there are several places where the cohesiveness breaks down. For instance, the transition from discussing global trends to mentioning the lack of clothing in poorer countries feels abrupt. Furthermore, the abrupt changes in ideas could confuse the reader. Better use of linking words or phrases to guide the reader through the discussion would improve overall coherence. While the ideas are connected, they're not as fluid as they could be.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The lexical resource displayed is varied, but there are some inaccuracies that hinder clarity. For example, phrases like 'global fashion trends in new age' could be improved to 'contemporary global fashion trends.' The use of casual or informal expressions, such as 'just not have clothes,' detracts from the academic tone expected in IELTS Task 2 responses. There are also some awkward collocations that may confuse readers. Expanding vocabulary range and using more precise academic language would enhance the writing significantly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
Grammatical range and accuracy are concerns in this response. The sentence structures are often simple and sometimes unclear, as seen in 'Wearing is not just a need of human but also a way of expression.' There are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles (e.g., 'the fashion industry') and subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'the trends... are integral part'). Although the overall meaning can be understood, these errors affect the professionalism of the writing. Improving grammatical accuracy and complexity is necessary for a higher band score.
Overall feedback
This essay presents relevant points about how global fashion impacts people's lives, touching on both positive and negative aspects. To improve, focus on structuring the response more clearly and ensuring each idea flows logically to the next. More detailed examples and clearer transitions would help develop your arguments further. Additionally, enhancing grammatical accuracy and using more diverse vocabulary would improve your score. Consider proofreading your work to weed out some the grammatical errors, enhance clarity, and ensure a cohesive academic tone.
