Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay addresses both parts of the prompt—explaining the influence of global fashion and providing an opinion—the arguments are underdeveloped and repetitive. The explanation of how social media and brands influence people is superficial, and the discussion regarding whether this is a positive or negative development lacks depth and specific examples. The conclusion is incomplete, trailing off mid-sentence, which prevents a clear summary of the position. To improve, you must expand on your points with detailed explanations and examples to reach the required length.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear logical progression. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak, with sentences often feeling disconnected. Cohesive devices are used in a very limited and sometimes mechanical way, such as the repetitive use of 'this is the main advantage'. Referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of ideas. The essay also lacks a proper introduction and a finished conclusion, which disrupts the overall coherence of the piece. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would greatly enhance the structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits the ability to express complex ideas effectively. There is a reliance on simple phrasing, such as 'way of dressing' and 'people are influenced'. Some word choices are inaccurate or awkward, such as 'influsingthe' and 'concentrated on their clothing'. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic language. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to incorporate a wider range of vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'globalization', 'cultural homogenization', or 'self-expression', and focus on using these words in their correct collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'this will effect the development' (should be 'affect') and 'often wants to copy' (should be 'often want'). Sentence structures are generally simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with run-on sentences and missing commas. The incomplete final sentence further highlights a lack of control over sentence structure. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb forms, and practicing the use of complex structures like relative clauses or conditional sentences.
