Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this era, everyone wants to wear branded clothes and shoes. If they are not able to purchase then they try to carry duplicates. However, many people are follow a global fashion trends, which has powerful impact on people. In my opinion, it is a negative development.

There are several reasons how global fashion has such huge influence on people's lives. To begin with, today, most of the brands promote their products through famous celebrities like actors, cricketers and footballers. Many people follow them on their daily lives, hence they try to follow them and buy such items. For example, recently in INDIA there is one social media influencer, who started his own clothing brand and within 24 hours of launch they sold out half of their stock. Moreover, many people follow trends to be active in the society. They think if they will not follow trends then they will isolated from a society, thus they have to maintain their social status. Furthermore, for many people it is like a hobby, they wanted to try new clothes and shoes. There are many people that they just buy the product and they use it just ones.

There are various reasons why I believe that it is a negative development. To start with, it is not possible for everyone to purchase original products, thus they will try to get duplicate, which will affect sales of original product and sometimes sales person gets benefit. What is more, many people who cannot afford this items they work extra and buy it but they can use it just for few times. If they invest that money then it will helpful for them in the future.

In conclusion, people follow trends because they follow such famous individuals, they do not want to be feel isolated from a society and sometimes they just want to follow trends.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the influence of global fashion and the writer's opinion on whether it is a positive or negative development. The ideas are relevant, such as the role of celebrities and social pressure. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding the negative impact of duplicates is a bit repetitive and lacks depth. While the position is clear, the supporting points could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The conclusion is also quite brief and merely restates the introduction rather than synthesising the main arguments effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. The use of cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' helps the reader follow the argument. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'There are several reasons how global fashion has such huge influence'. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, for example, 'sometimes sales person gets benefit' is vague. While the progression is generally logical, the transition between ideas within paragraphs could be smoother to improve the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'people', 'trends', and 'clothes'. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'social media influencer' and 'branded clothes', there are errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'carry duplicates' instead of 'buy counterfeit goods' or 'use it just ones' instead of 'use it only once'. The range is sufficient to communicate the main points, but it does not demonstrate a flexible or sophisticated use of language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('many people are follow'), article misuse ('in INDIA there is one social media influencer'), and awkward phrasing ('if they will not follow trends then they will isolated'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. To improve, the student should focus on verb tense consistency and the correct use of passive voice and modal verbs.
