Student answer (Band 6.0)
Global fashion has become influential mainly because of social media, celebrities , new trends, online awareness, international brands. This is a largely negative impact as it leads to more expenditure, deter the cultural aspect and more textile wastage.
In recent times, social media has become major source of marketing different clothing in every corner of the world. Platforms such as Tik-tok, Instagram ,Facebook are used to show different trends online. These apps are increasingly used by international brands to promote their clothing at global level. Influencers, celebrities and models are often payed to wear their clothing as well known personalities play a significant role in marketing. If something is worn by a celebrity it becomes a fashion trend as soon as possible.
However, the negative effects should not remain ignored, online shopping leads to more consumerism ,as people become crazy over useless trends which usually fades away in days. A trend rises among some influencers is then followed by youngsters increasing more expenditure. People spend their money on things they usually don't need due to seeing variety of products online and getting attracted to different trends. These fashions are influencing our cultures in a detrimental way as young youth gets impacted by social media and tries to copy those clothing ignoring own cultures. Like girls used to wear loose clothing back then but now they wear tight pants and bold dresses forgetting their religious and cultural values . In contrast, more clothing and expenditure leads to more raw material waste causing textile pollution.
In my perspective , we should not get effected by online trends, sometimes a change in appearance is good but buying unneccessary things are waste of money .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the influence of global fashion and the evaluation of its impact. The position is clear throughout, arguing that the influence is largely negative due to consumerism and cultural erosion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the role of social media and influencers is well-explained, the discussion on cultural impact is a bit generalised and could benefit from more specific, nuanced examples. The conclusion is brief and slightly repetitive of the body paragraphs. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with deeper analysis rather than just listing consequences.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. There is a clear progression of ideas from the causes of fashion trends to their negative consequences. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However', 'In contrast', and 'In my perspective', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing within sentences could be smoother. For instance, the link between 'youngsters' and 'increasing more expenditure' is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph flows naturally into the next would strengthen the coherence of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'detrimental', 'consumerism', and 'textile pollution'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'payed' (should be 'paid'), 'as soon as possible' (which is contextually awkward here), and 'young youth' (which is redundant). The range is sufficient to convey the message, but more precise academic vocabulary would elevate the response. Spelling errors like 'unneccessary' and 'effected' (should be 'affected') also occur, which slightly detracts from the overall quality.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('a trend rises... is then followed'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward phrasing ('deter the cultural aspect'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement around lists and clauses. To improve, the student should focus on mastering complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or conditional sentences more accurately, and proofreading for basic errors in verb tense and word form.
