Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address both parts of the prompt—explaining the influence of global fashion and stating your opinion—the ideas are underdeveloped. For instance, you mention social media and celebrities but do not explain the mechanism of their influence in depth. The conclusion is repetitive and lacks a summary of the main points. To improve, you must expand your arguments with specific examples and ensure your position is consistently supported throughout the essay. The current length prevents a full exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between sentences is often mechanical or disjointed. You use basic cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'Moreover', but the logical progression within paragraphs is weak. For example, the transition from discussing websites to celebrities is abrupt. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'they use their creativity', where the antecedent for 'they' is ambiguous. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider range of cohesive devices and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother narrative flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, which restricts your ability to express complex ideas. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'bad', or 'important'. There are also instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'hash out' (which is informal and used incorrectly here) and 'increase their sails' (likely a misspelling of 'sales'). The phrasing 'people really impress by' is grammatically incorrect and unnatural. To improve, you should focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to fashion and globalization, and aim to use more precise vocabulary to convey your arguments effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people really impress'), missing articles, and incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'people for get'). Sentence structures are predominantly simple, with very few attempts at complex sentences. When you do attempt more complex structures, they often contain errors, such as 'they wear those type of clothes which a celebrity wear'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
