Student answer (Band 7.0)

Here is a **250-word version**, written in a natural IELTS style and targeting around **Band 6.5–7**:

Global fashion trends have become a significant influence on the way people dress today. With the rapid development of social media, international brands and online shopping, fashion trends can spread from one country to another within a short period. In my opinion, this is generally a positive development, although it also has some disadvantages.

One of the main reasons for the strong influence of global fashion is the growth of social media. Platforms such as Instagram, YouTube and TikTok allow people to observe the clothing styles of celebrities, influencers and ordinary users from different parts of the world. As a result, people often follow popular trends and incorporate them into their own wardrobes. Furthermore, international fashion companies have expanded their businesses across the world, making similar clothing available in many countries. Online shopping has also contributed to this trend because consumers can easily purchase clothes from international brands without travelling abroad.

I believe that global fashion is mainly a positive development because it provides people with more choices and encourages cultural exchange. For example, young people in India can easily adopt Korean, European or American fashion styles while combining them with traditional Indian clothing. This allows individuals to express their personality and develop their own sense of style. However, there are some drawbacks. Constant exposure to new trends may encourage people to buy clothes unnecessarily, which can increase waste and put pressure on people to follow unrealistic fashion standards.

In conclusion, global fashion has become a powerful influence because of social media, international businesses and online shopping. Although it can encourage excessive consumption, I believe its ability to provide greater choice and promote cultural exchange makes it a largely positive development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt clearly. You have identified the reasons for the influence of global fashion (social media, international brands, online shopping) and provided a balanced view on whether this is a positive or negative development. Your position is clear from the introduction and maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the example regarding cultural exchange in India, which adds depth to your argument. To reach a higher band, you could further extend the discussion on the negative aspects, perhaps by exploring the environmental impact of 'fast fashion' in more detail to provide a more nuanced analysis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between the reasons for the influence and the evaluation of the development is smooth. You use a range of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'Furthermore', 'As a result', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader through your argument. The paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the overall clarity of the response. The logical flow is consistent, and the relationship between ideas is always clear, meeting the requirements for a high band score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'incorporate them into their own wardrobes', 'constant exposure', and 'excessive consumption' show a good command of topic-specific language. You use less common lexical items with awareness of style, and there are no significant errors in word choice or collocation. To improve further, you could incorporate more sophisticated or idiomatic expressions to enhance the natural flow of the writing, though your current usage is already quite effective for conveying your points clearly and accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

The essay displays a good variety of complex structures, such as conditional sentences and relative clauses (e.g., '...which can increase waste and put pressure on people...'). The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over grammar and punctuation is strong. There are no major errors that impede communication. The sentence structures are varied, which keeps the writing engaging. To achieve a higher score, ensure that you continue to experiment with more sophisticated grammatical forms, such as inversion or more complex passive constructions, while maintaining the high level of accuracy you have demonstrated here.
