Student answer (Band 5.5)

In today's time the global fashion trends have a major impact and say on what people choose to wear. In my perspective these rafiel fashion trends have taken a hold over people majorly through the source of social media. Although this influence has positive and negative sides, I believe the drawbacks are greater. The reasons for my opinion are discussed in the following paragraphs.

The quick viral clothing trends of today's time are a major source of imparity and loss of individuality in the society. Firstly, these trends follow no logic or pattern and are in most cases impractical. This not just becomes a problem for buyers but also the producers and designers as they can never understand what the audience wants. It leads to lack of stability and also loss of resources as the

trends can change at any moment. For instance, before few years no one had heard the name of cork based sandals, but now they are the present buzz. Secondly, these unpredictable changes confuses buyers.

Secondly these unpredictable changes confuse the buyers of selecting their own style as what is relevant today is out of fashion tomorrow. This also leads to lack of originality among people and a sense of comparison at all instances. Due to this a person never feels confident in his/her fashion choices & as they are constantly judged upon the global fashion bonds. For example the trend of shiny fit jeans for skateboarders really suits a certain body type but looks rather un-aesthetic on other body types causing disparity and fear of judgment.

In conclusion, yes the world sharing a common fashion idea connects people and makes the world a global village, but it takes away the space for individual taste and dressing ideas and reduces the creativity not just among the buyers but the designers too, as everybody wish to wear the same thing even if having a personal dislike at times by the fear of not being accepted.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the influence of global fashion and the evaluation of whether this is positive or negative. You clearly state your position that the drawbacks outweigh the benefits. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you mention social media as a driver, the explanation of how it influences lives could be more detailed. The arguments regarding 'imparity' and 'loss of individuality' are relevant, but the examples provided, such as 'cork based sandals' or 'shiny fit jeans', are slightly underdeveloped and do not fully illustrate the broader societal impact you are arguing against. To improve, ensure each body paragraph provides a deeper analysis of the 'why' and 'how' behind your claims.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organized into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions are repetitive. For instance, you start two consecutive paragraphs with 'Secondly'. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the use of '&' and the abrupt shift in the final paragraph. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would help the progression of ideas feel more natural and sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'individuality', 'unpredictable', and 'aesthetic'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors that affect the precision of your argument. For example, 'rafiel' appears to be a typo or non-standard usage, and 'imparity' is used in a context where 'conformity' or 'homogeneity' might have been more accurate. The phrase 'global fashion bonds' is also slightly unnatural. To reach a higher band, focus on using collocations more accurately and expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary to express complex ideas with greater precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'before few years' (should be 'a few years ago'), 'confuses buyers of selecting' (should be 'confuses buyers regarding the selection of'), and 'everybody wish' (should be 'everybody wishes'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly the use of the ampersand '&' and missing commas in complex sentences. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a stronger grasp of subject-verb agreement and prepositional usage.
