Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 175 words. Consequently, the task is incomplete. While the introduction touches upon the influence of celebrities and marketing, the essay fails to address the second part of the prompt regarding whether this influence is a positive or negative development. The ideas presented are underdeveloped, and the essay ends abruptly mid-sentence, leaving the argument unfinished. To improve, you must ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed and provide a balanced, fully developed discussion that meets the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay shows some attempt at logical organization, with an introduction and body paragraphs. However, the abrupt ending and the lack of a conclusion significantly hinder the overall coherence. Cohesive devices are used sparingly, and the progression of ideas is interrupted by the incomplete nature of the text. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is cut off, which disrupts the flow of the argument. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that you use linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') to connect your ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally functional but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'marketing strategy' and 'external factors', but the range is limited. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'favouraite' (spelling error) and 'dressing sense', which is slightly informal. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'consumerism', 'globalization', 'cultural appropriation', or 'socio-economic impact', and ensure accurate spelling throughout.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are grammatical errors, such as 'Global fashion trends is something' (subject-verb agreement) and 'is popularly called as' (incorrect preposition usage). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the incomplete sentence at the end is a major issue. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and refining your use of complex sentence structures. Ensure that you proofread your work to catch minor slips and complete all sentences before finishing the task.
