Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying global fashion as an influence and expressing a positive opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The arguments provided—such as people wearing new clothes for weddings or birthdays—are simplistic and lack the depth required for an academic essay. The explanation of why this is a 'positive development' is underdeveloped, relying on personal anecdotes rather than broader societal or economic analysis. The position is clear, but the supporting evidence is not sufficiently extended to meet higher band requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', 'In conclusion'), they are often used mechanically or incorrectly. The transition between sentences is frequently disjointed, making the flow of the argument difficult to follow. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks a clear focus, as the writer jumps between personal history and general observations without a smooth transition.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic terms like 'clothes', 'dress', 'new', and 'simple' throughout the text. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'need able think' and 'sport my answer' (likely meant 'support'). The lack of precision and the misuse of vocabulary significantly hinder the clarity of the message. To improve, the student needs to focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to fashion, globalization, and societal trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many companies built'), verb tense usage (e.g., 'In past time these things not produced'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, and punctuation is used inconsistently. While the student attempts some complex structures, they are almost always inaccurate. The high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the essay from reaching a higher band score.
