Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying the influence of social media and expressing a negative view regarding cultural erosion and financial burden. However, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence, which prevents a full development of the argument. Furthermore, the word count is below the 250-word minimum, which negatively impacts the score. While the position is clear, the ideas are under-developed due to the lack of a conclusion and the unfinished nature of the final paragraph. To improve, ensure all parts of the prompt are fully explored and that the essay reaches the required length with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay attempts to use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'In addition to this', and 'Secondly'. However, the logical flow is hindered by the abrupt ending and the lack of a concluding paragraph. Paragraphing is present but the transition between ideas is sometimes mechanical. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the overall structure feels incomplete. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using a wider range of cohesive devices to link sentences and paragraphs more fluidly, and ensure the essay has a clear, logical progression from the introduction through to a final summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors, such as 'disscuss', 'knowldge', 'instgram', and 'disapear'. The word choice is often repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'dress' and 'people'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated or topic-specific vocabulary limits the score. To improve, focus on learning synonyms and collocations related to fashion and cultural impact, and proofread carefully to eliminate basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('in the money form'), incorrect verb forms ('if a girl wearing'), and punctuation issues (missing spaces after periods). Subject-verb agreement and pluralization are also inconsistent. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, practice using a variety of complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses and conditional sentences, and pay closer attention to basic grammatical rules like subject-verb agreement and proper punctuation.
