Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays many people get influenced by global fashion trends while choosing what to wear. Global fashion trends plays crucial role in shaping individual's choices. While there are some positive aspects, but In my opinion this is negative development overall.
On the positive side, fashion trends help people to understand the styling and what trendy dresses are in fashion. By following celebrities, people get to know which kind of dressing would suit them and how can they dress according to their body types. In addition, not all people are aware about good styling by themselves, therefore through those global fashion trends, they can improve their looks by wearing appropriate clothing, which play very crucial role in enhancing their personalities in general.
On the other hand, if people start getting influence so much from those fashion trends, it can make them underconfident. As they want to look exactly like the people they see on screens, they want to wear the same cloths. As a result they can get stressed about it which can effect their mental health. Especially young generation who want to follow each and everything of their favorite celebrities they watch on televisions and social media. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the influence of global fashion and the evaluation of whether this is a positive or negative development. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the essay ends abruptly mid-sentence, which means the conclusion is incomplete and the final argument is not fully developed. While the ideas presented are relevant, the lack of a finished conclusion prevents the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, ensure that you have enough time to fully articulate your final thoughts and provide a balanced summary of your main points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for both sides of the argument, and a concluding section. Cohesive devices such as 'On the positive side', 'In addition', and 'On the other hand' are used to guide the reader. However, the abrupt ending significantly disrupts the flow and cohesion of the final paragraph. Additionally, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To achieve a higher score, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that all paragraphs are fully developed and brought to a natural, logical conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary such as 'global fashion trends', 'enhancing their personalities', and 'underconfident'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'get influenced' instead of 'are influenced' and 'fashion dresses'. The range is sufficient for the task but lacks the sophistication or precision required for higher bands. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations and academic synonyms would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Global fashion trends plays'), missing articles ('the young generation'), and incorrect verb forms ('can effect' instead of 'can affect'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization after conjunctions. While these errors do not prevent communication, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage would be highly beneficial.
