Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this modern world fashion has changed a lot. The fashion trend around the world shows significant impact on the people way of dressing. This is primarily because, these days everyone all around the world are moving towards only one decision due to decrease in cultural barriers. I believe that this is a positive development.

In recent time we generally observe that everyone around the world are hanging on one popular thing. For example, clothing; in past, every country used to have its own clothing style, but nowadays we are experiencing only one style. This is especially due decrease in cultural disputes. Every person are following one clothing style irrespective of their culture. For instance, at present there is only one fashion is in trend, that is to wear relaxed and oversize clothes. This is happening today because, people are getting influenced by things which the majority is following. This is a positive sign of development because every country's individuals gets united through fashion.

The other influential factor is travelling. In recent times people are getting interacted with foreigners, by migrating to other countries or by tourism. Everyone traveling around the world and participating in different cultural activities and change their style of living. This shows impact even on the dressing style. For instance, now every country is influenced by Korean style dressing and following that. In this way, fashion is getting influenced by tourism. This shows a positive impact on development.

In conclusion, even-though each country has its own culture and tradition, everyone around the world is likely to follow only one thing. This helps to remove barriers between the individuals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the influence of global fashion and the evaluation of whether this is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. While you mention 'cultural barriers' and 'travelling' as reasons, the explanation remains superficial. For instance, the claim that 'everyone around the world are hanging on one popular thing' is a broad generalisation that lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or nuanced analysis of how these trends are disseminated, such as the role of social media or digital marketing, rather than relying solely on tourism.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'For instance' and 'In recent times' are used frequently, and some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'This is happening today because, people are getting influenced by things which the majority is following.' Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to previous nouns would enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'change', and 'thing'. There are also some collocation errors, such as 'everyone around the world are hanging on one popular thing' and 'getting interacted with foreigners'. To improve, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'globalisation', 'homogenisation', 'cultural exchange', or 'ubiquitous'. Expanding your range of synonyms and focusing on accurate word combinations will significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue, for example: 'everyone all around the world are moving' (should be 'is moving') and 'every person are following' (should be 'is following'). There are also punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas and unnecessary commas before 'because'. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage.
